If you're getting a puppy, and have neighbouring dogs that bark all day because their owners work full time, but you'll be home all day though, what's the best way to encourage your puppy to not join in the barking?
People who are gone all day should not get dogs, or probably pets period.

Get a breed that doesn't bark too much.
Give them treats and/or praise when they aren't barking while the other dogs bark

Get a breed that would totally fucking annihilate any tiny asshole dog that has the balls to approach it. Get one like larger poodle mixed breeds that are quiet but have a very unpredictable temperament around other dogs.
If the other dogs live through it, they probably won't bark at your dog or you again.
Call the cops about the noise disturbance. Record the barking and then play it back to them on a speaker when they get home. If they leave it outside, steal it and put it somewhere they won't find it.
Don't get a retarded animal that does noting but make noise.
