Hey /an/, thinking about getting my first snake. I'm torn between the ball python and the corn. I want the ball because of its weight and girth, and its chill nature when handled, I want the corn because of its energy and lack of feeding issues and strict habitat standards
Any personal experiences with one or other?

Getting a ball python is one of the best decisions of my life. Once you get the habitat set up and get the temperature and humidity right, it's super easy and fun. 10/10 would recommend
get neither and join the hognose masterrace instead

This
Best of both worlds

Cornsnakes can become both energetic and chill once they're older, so you get both of the things you want. Also they're better at eating than ball pythons and don't just.. sit there like a ball python. You're looking for a pet, not a decoration.

Why not a boa?
Get yourself a nice, wild, not defanged, perfectly complete and healthy king cobra.

This.
Ball pythons are ok if they don't get picky about eating.

I keep hearing they're tons of fun to handle compared to BPs, but my BP's always pretty active when I take him out. Sell boas to me.
I just got a ball python from a guy off craigslist and all he came with was a log, a water bowl, a black light and a regular light bulb. Can I get some advice on what he needs and doesnt need?
