I may sound stupid asking this but every dog's got fleas here and there right? His fur is so thick I can't really tell
you should flea your dog once a month

No

That's why you give your dog flea medicine monthly to kill them.
Looks like your dog may be some kind of collie cross, so they may be sensitive to many flea preventatives. Call your fucking vet yo.

Not OP but related concern.
I have the heartworm medication for my dog, but I still do not have any flea preventatives.
Luckily, he has no fleas and no sign of itching.
My question is, what is a good flea preventative that is not the one you put on its back (he is a fluffy dog and I love to hug and pet him).
I was hoping there could be some kind of pill? But not if it has symptoms or any side effects for my dog. If no such thing exists, what collar should I get for him?
I do have a vet appointment the 11th for his booster shots, so I might ask the vet then if no one really knows.

the vet will give you the best answer. usually they can prescribe oral flea preventatives.
I will let you know though that as long as you apply topical flea preventative properly, you can still hug and pet him. just wait like, an hour. it's only greasy if you apply too much in one spot.
Also, OP, no. not every dog has fleas. properly cared-for dogs do not have fleas. also dogs that live in very dry, cool areas won't have fleas, or are less likely to get them.
