Rabies, to be honest.

It's not horrifying, it's just depressing I suppose. It's just a small disease that manifests itself possibly after months of not doing anything. It makes animals and people extremely agitated and paranoid, it prevents them from drinking any sort of liquid (People literally gag and spit up water they drink), and it's a death sentence. It's even against the law in most places to treat animals with rabies, so there's no forseeable cure, just hope that vaccinations will one day eradicate it.

Gnats never bothered me much more than minor annoyance from time to time until I saw one up close. It's not truly horrifying or disgusting to me. It's actually fascinating, but there's something about the antennae that is just deeply unsettling. The way they displace the eyes with those orbs at the base like a Christmas tree stand.
