I've heard a lot of people arguing over this one and I don't really know enough about this to have a proper opinion on it.
So, are wild caught animals really that bad and if so why or why not?
You shouldn't take animals out of the wild to keep as pets because a captive breeding industry already exists so pets can be had without affecting the local wild population. Secondly, wild caught specimans -i'm talking reptiles and amphibians here- do not adapt well to captive conditions, may never adapt, are often loaded with parasites and absolutely require vet care.
Don't be cheapskate.

Depends on the species, their conservation status, and your local laws. I mean if you live in florida and wanna take in a pair of cane toads (which are invasive) go for it.
Captive pets are usually much healthier and don't experience the tremendous stress that comes with wild caught ones(which also tend to have parasites) and depending on who you are buying from you know the health history.
Wild caught is just shitty. I'd give the occasional a pass though since it's good to widen the genetic diversity.
