They aren't common at all, but yeah, it's normal. I love seeing these guys inbetween all the other black and white pigeons. I believe they are actually called red pigeons rather than brown pigeons though

It derives from domesticated pigeon stock. Domestic pigeons breed with wild rock doves, though our 'wild' pigeons are actually feral pigeons as they were brought to the USA in the 1600s(and basically all around the world). I forgot where they are actually native too.

It's normal in most places with pigeons because they're not actually wild pigeons.

There is a red pigeon living in and around the parkade where I work. I've watching him do his pigeon stuff since he was just a fledgling. He's about 3.5 years old now, has a mate, and I'm pretty sure is a successfull father. Best pigeon.
