why aren't these more popular as pets?
I get that they have a pretty short lifespan but aside from that i don't see anything wrong with them

People like pets they can actually pet.
triops are more like living decorations. In the same class as tomatoes and reef tanks. Except not as tasty/pretty.
The only time I have ever seen these or seamonkeys for sale have been at garage sales and fleamarkets. I am completely sure the last ones I bought 15 years ago where at the minimum of 20 years old when I bought them since the shop I bought them from had been opened since the 40s.
They still hatched.
Had a bunch as a kid from a kit I got at Toys R Us. Pretty neat. My dad called them my "dinosaurs"

They always seemed to have adds for them in those scholastic book catalogues. I never bought any though.

They're so fucking rad, I could only raise 4 adults tho. Never got them to lay eggs

That's the point, isn't it? I vaguely remember getting a booklet with triops saying their eggs lay dormant for extended periods of time in dry ponds until it rains again.
