Can he really learn to track, too, /an/? Six year old pit. Some Muslims just gave him to us when he was two and they moved.
I was thinking of buying a mixbred pup or even a piglet to train for truffle hunting instead. If I could get him trained or close in a year/less I don't see why I should have to get another animal.

You can most def train him in a year, but that's assuming you have a lot of time in the day to train. Also, he will need to be able to have a strong sniffer for truffles if that's what you're aiming for

He has a decent sniffer. I've never worried about him not finding a treat because he can't see where I threw it.
Apparently female pigs are better truffle hunters than dogs or rakers, but they're just not used anymore.

That's what everyone who's never kept pigs said. I've never heard someone who hunts truffles with a sow say that. It's been illegal in Italy a while, so I wonder how true that is.
