I think they get triggered by the shape, like >>2427197 clearly recognizes the statue as being cat-like and is going after it. I doubt if you put a log there instead that it would even care.

I knew what video this would be before I even hovered the link.

When I was a kid, my mom had this little figurine statue of a siamese cat, about the size of your hand. It was fairly realistic and had bright blue eyes, and was modeled in a crouched position to make it look like it was about to pounce.

My cats would FLIP OUT over that thing. I used to tease them by taking the figurine and just barely peeking its face over rugs or furniture at them. Their pupils would get dime-sized and they'd often hiss and growl or puff up.
