Why does /an/ have such a fucking hate boner for pitbulls? It's not like they chose to be this way, dog fighters fucked it up for everyone.
Even then, pitbulls are perfectly manageable dogs for any responsible pet owner. I've had my pittie for 10 years now, and he's never snapped at me once. I just make sure he gets a lot of exercise (about 3 hour long walks a day), and he's mellow for the rest of the day.
So what gives, /an/?
dog fighters fucked it up for everyone by creating pitbulls

But they were bred originally for bull baiting anon
It's literally in the name

oh, they were bred to fight cows, not to fight other dogs? thats very different, now I don't know why they love to bite and kill and are so good at it anymore because of your good point

Reddit despises pit bulls too, r/dogs throws an absolute shit fit when someone brings it up. /an/ didn't always hate dogs, in fact pit bull threads were largely consider troll threads once upon a time. I think the past couple of years brought an influx of new users coming about and with it, changes the mentality of a board.

Once upon a time when bull baiting was a thing, people started breeding the bull fighting bulldogs with random terriers, calling the mutts bull & terriers. When bloodsport was outlawed and dog fighting became popular, the bull & terriers became much more popular for dog fighting. However there are many dogs considered bully breeds or even pit bulls that don't share that history at all, a lot of breeds are just molossers

I would say pit bull breeds were originally bred for dog fighting, as by the time the pit bull type dogs came around bull fighting went largely out of style and dog fighting became big. It was bull dogs and bull & terriers that were mainly fighting bulls. However, just because a breed was originally bred for something a few generations ago does not mean it's still going to keep the necessary traits if you are not actively breeding for it. Look at bulldogs for example. Doxxies, St. Bernards, Danes etc all had a purpose but now if you randomly grabbed one from a breeder and trained it, it would probably not be too good at it's original purpose. It's just what happens when you breed too far away from a drive and change it too much. Even if you mix a beagle with a lab, there's a very good chance you have both a useless beagle that can't track and useless lab that can't retrieve. To add to that, I believe it would be very difficult and probably impossible to actually trace down most pit bulls' heritage, they aren't really pit bulls but mutts upon mutts upon mutts. They could honestly be a fucking landrace dog at this point. Which is dangerous in it's own way of course.

>it's not like they chose to be this way
They are that way though. People should stop breeding the damn things already.

Its unfair to bulldogs to continue breeding bulldogs because all youre doing is creating more and more dogs with debilitating breathing problems which will more than likely end up killing the dog. It is also unfair to pitbulls to continue breeding pitbulls because all youre doing is creating more unmanageably aggressive dogs that will more than likely be put down after attacking another dog or human.
Do the humane thing and fuck them all to death.
