Feral cats can be absolutely insane, there was this neighborhood stray that would come around and terrorize my cat, I went running straight at him screaming once and he refused to back down. I went to kick him and he jumped straight at my chest and tore a hole in my shirt. Then he insisted on staying just out of my reach but wouldn't leave until i started throwing rocks at him. He made me feel like a huge pussy, I vowed to destroy him next time but it seems I actually scared him enough that he doesn't come in my yard anymore.

Point is the cat was not even slightly afraid of me despite being like 1/16th my size

A juvenile can still fuck shit up pretty quickly if they get hold of you, and getting injured can be a death sentence for a predator. It's even more ballsy when you consider the fact that all that thrashing could potentially attract a fully grown caiman or anaconda. While we're discussing crocodilians in a fearless thread, you've got this big fucker here that'll happily go for any and everything that goes near his domain, even humans. Salties give precisely zero fucks. A fully grown male salty is virtually unchallenged and has absolutely nothing to fear.

How can you not think wolverine?

They will stare down a bear and the bear will fucking always back off first because they aren't stupid.

They are 35 pounds of death and regularly hunt massive moose and Karabu. There was a case where a wolverine escaped it's enclosure at a zoo and it killed a polarbear. It killed the largest land predator by clamping down on its throat until it suffocated.

There was a male wolverine that was captured in a wooden box so researchers could tag and release it. When they arrived to collect the box trap,
they were baffled to find a hole in the 8 inch thick wood box and the male dead inside.

They discovered that another male had come by and tore through the box. It did it just to kill the male inside that was it's rival.

Hippos are average 5 tons, not 2.

They can have tusks 12-16 inches

Their bite force is around 1800 lbs psi

No matter how powerful the croc is, the hippos bite alone would fuck it up. Not to mention nothing really fucks with hippos, what with the 20 odd hippos chilling together and all willing to crush a croc to death. God help any creature who fucks with a hippo

Croc are Hippo's bitch. Hippos are smarter, stronger, bigger, just as fast in water and 10x as agile out of water, they roll in huge groups that work together and have each others back, crocs just bite at shit, and they have loads more stamina due to the fact that they arent cold blooded.

Anyone who unironically posts that a croc would defeat a hippo is either trolling or a total idiot who knows nothing about either animal.

hippo sizes up to roughly 2 tons while the most conservative estimates for purussaurus are 5 tons, with the heaviest reaching 8 to 10 tons.
No your precious hippo would not survive an attack from a purusaurus or deniosuchus. These animals evolved to take down large thick hided prey that occupied similar niches has hippos in their time.

>>2428901

No but it certainly could kill and consume a hippo, just as a modern crocodile could if it grew to the same size and proportions as its extinct relatives. Take away a hippo's size and there is nothing special to it, just like any other animal.

For an excellent senior prank, throw a dead male hippopotamus into the pool. It takes a crane to get it out.
>>
>>2429117
If a crock grew and a hippo shrunk of course the crock will win.

But considering a hippo can break a Crocs spine with a single bite, or could stomp it to Oblivion.

And considering the massive size difference of a full grown hippo and full grown croc. If the croc suddenly gained triple it's size and weight of course the story changes. Equal weight, but 15-20 vs 1 still doesn't bode well for a purussaurus by itself. It would be smart enough to not piss off 20 creatures that will fight you until death.

San Diego zoo also backs up the weight as 9900 lbs but with the possibility of higher weights plausible.

NAT Geo states around 4 tons, that they have personally recorded, not including eyewitness accounts of huge hippos of the locals

The last source is a TV show called world's deadliest, not sure what sources they used but they also say that hippos can be up to 10,000lbs and its on the national geographic channel

The national animal foundation also says 10,000 lbs in addition to saying that apparently whales were related to whales according to some biologists.
Now off topic kinda:

Steve Irwin stated that a segment where he had to go past hippos in a river to be the most dangerous moment of his career.

But he had no problem tackling Crocs or grabbing black mamba snakes.

For the anon arguing about how extinct animals don't count in this hypothetical fight, I can sort of agree. At the same time though we should probably also rule out animals from entirely separate continents that will never even meet each other, let alone fight. A saltwater croc isn't going to just happen upon a goddamn hippo. They might be willing to swim across oceans to reach (relatively) nearby islands, but I highly doubt one is going to travel much further than some of the Asian islands. That being said, salties still deal with some rough shit in said journeys seeing as one can potentially run across three of the most dangerous sharks known to man and could potentially die if they're too exhausted from the journey to fight them off. The fact that crocs are still okay with risking that earns them points in my book.
