I'm trying to mix a decent amount of soil for succulents at once and I'm going with what

1. For the compost I was going to go with a bag of non-peat based storebrand.

2. for the sand, I know play sand is shit, but what about just normal ass construction sand that people use for building, you know, the shit that people get in piles in their yard when they level it.
Would that fit the bill?

3. and for grit, best case I might be able to get a decent pile of pearlite, but if not I was probably going to go with some cheap pea pebbles or some other small gravel/rock I can find.


Thoughts? Improvements? First time trying to mix my own shit and not just planting right into a premade crapfest
Going to be making a decent amount of it so I'm going for cheap as possible because I'm poor and shit.

Marigolds are great because the deer hate their smell, and don't eat them. I line the outside of my garden with them for this reason, also because they bloom for a very long time, and in my opinion the bright yellow ones look cheerful. go fuck yourself.
