Has anyone here had experience with expensive/pedigreed cats? I've always wondered what it would be like to have a cat that's smarter than a stoned hamster, but I know next to nothing about what's involved in owning a purebread.
Feel free to discuss any other pets with pedigree, too.
I wouldn't say that purebred cats are more or less intelligent.
There is a Devon Rex (curly hair cats) that posts here, or at least they used to.

In case it needed to be clarified that a Devon Rex cat isn't actually posting on /an/

Well, my current cat (who is nearly 12) isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. I thought there were certain breeds with reputation for intelligent behavior, like Siamese cats, but from what I've heard they need like 24/7 attention.
modern cat breeds = bred exclusively for the coat qualities
ancient cat breeds = whatever the isolated gene pool dictated to have
tl;dr same lottery as with mutts
if you want a specific cat, add yourself to some fostering program (of the sort what allows for the foster owner to adopt, sometimes pets are half adopted already like with feeding moms) and eventually snag the right one.
Most owners of Turkish vans agree that they're particularly intelligent. I have one and he's sharp as a tack and a total bro. They can be naughty because of it, but mine has been easy to train. I tell him "no" once and he will stop what he's doing straight away. He seems to know when he's being a little shit too, because if he's not doing anything wrong he'll pay me no attention.
He picked up games easily too, like fetch and chase etc. He also walks on a lead.
Honestly I just love Turkish vans. Id recommend them to anyone.
Pic related it's Frank
I own/owned Ragdolls for a great deal of my life.
Intelligence: Pretty much just another cat.
Demeanour: Current one seems super chill, no qualms about petting, has no boundaries. He's like no other cat I've ever owned. Previous one was just like every other cat in behavior. So, jury is still out.
Should you buy one?: A cat is a cat. $1200 is ultimately a waste on an animal, that may act a little different and have some different physical features.
Are hypoallergenic cats real or just a meme? I'm mildly allergic, but want a cat.
