So everything I look up says this suckers don't bite, but I had one land on me and bite me several times on my shoulder and then arm and lastly hand before I killed the fucker.
What gives? I literally can't find a thing about them even being able to bite, everything I've found says it's literally impossible.
INSECTS ARE EVOLVING, WE'RE ALL DOOMED
>predatory insect is somehow supposed to not be able to bite
dumb or just retarded?

Dumb for sure, but I don't understand why I can't find a thing about them biting. I mean it was mostly harmless, but hurt like hell, worse than most ants and other common bitey bugs.
Every insect with a mouth can bite

That for sure wasn't a snakefly then, as all species are quite small and i'm very incredulous as to whether they could even break the skin. What size was it?
Ten bucks it was an ant. You probably just misidentified.
Those things are dicks. I had one fly into my face and bite my cheek somehow before flying off.

Majority of ants cannot break skin. Had my habereri majors with fat jaws biting me unable to break skin. My acromyrmex leafcutters also cant break skin.

Then a sting mistaken for a bite. Snakeflies do not seem to be able to bite.
Whatever bit OP didn't break the skin. I looked him over and couldn't find any obvious marks, but the bug did look like a snake fly.
Norther cally, and he's my roommate.

Ant bits are typically covering too small a surface area to effectively nip at the skin and give more of a ticklish sensation.

The snake fly does have a very similar appearance to a lot of ponerine species of ants which have very effective and painful stings. Would be a good bet but ponerine species are typically restricted to more tropical environments. Could be a very good shout out though.
surprise, surprise, insects are not very well understood
