First, you trim your nails

It would be very competitive since bird enthusiasts far out number reptile, fish, or mammal enthusiasts (barring show dogs and such). Bird people are crazy and will spend thousands of dollars on optics just to see a bird slightly more clearly. They will eat, sleep, breathe, live, and die birds. It's almost a fanatical devotion to them. So be aware of them before entering into that field, you will have a lot of other people who are literally obsessed with birds vying for what jobs there are.
