I want to get a large dog and I know they need meat and quite a lot of it.
I'm trying to get a gauge of what I need to feed my hypothetical dog and how much it will cost me to feed it well (if I can't, I won't get the dog).
I'm not opposed to buying a high-quality dog food brand, but they seem so expensive that it might be cheaper to make it myself. However, I'm a vegetarian and I don't know anything about meat.
I've looked at frozen chicken and ground turkey and the pricing isn't bad, but goddamn that shit's pumped full of salt.
Where do I find meat that's both affordable and not a salt-mine?
Please tell me about "exotic" meat like lamb, bison, venison, and so on.
Is frozen rabbit widely available for a decent price?
How about offals?
I'm even open to hunting small game to feed my dog, so tell me what you know about that, too.
FWIW, I'll be living in Oregon if/when I get the dog.
Thanks.

Ask a vet/nutritionist for dogs.
