It's been so long since I heard the "snake hypnosis" (fetish art aside) or "ostrich burying their heads in sand" imo

Forgotten animals facts are welcome as well.

when I was a kid adults told me I couldn't hold worms cus my skin would burn them, It took years before I figured out they were just jealous of my collection of soggy boys
>>
>>2406762
>soggy boys
Congratulations, that's probably the funniest thing I've read this week

I have soggy boys but no one will buy them.
They're mostly around 8-9 inches relaxed. Way bigger than me.

Very soggy wet noodles. You have to get them wet or they won't grow.

It's always a good day when I notice one in my larger terrariums
>>

Just wait for rain and go get them next to stone stairs. I have no trouble getting 40 an hour after rain. I should go get them now but I'm drunk and not poor.
>>
>>2406761
Wait, snake charm is a myth? I thought they could do that to small birds or something
>>
>>2407368
I mean they do the lock talons twirly thing while courting, but not boning.
People misunderstand.

I don't think anyone ever believed in the hoopsnake but I still hold it dear to my heart

Getting back to the worm topic I have a question.
I was buying nightcrawlers for fishing and was making small talk with the guy in the bait store. After wishing me luck I thanked him and said "If not, my garden will have a few more worms."
He sperged out on me saying that you should never release worms after fishing and that they're invasive and can ruin the soil and kill trees by over aerating the soil.
Is that true or was he just a nutjob?
>>
>>2407659
without an exact species there is know way to tell but he is right. better safe than sorry.
>>
>>2407659
Worms are the most dangerous species known to man, they eat dirt, causing a permanent loss of soil. A time will come when the worms will devour the entire planet, and move on to other worlds to eat just like they did to our own.
>>
>>2407667
It's your standard Canadian night crawler used for fishing.
>>
>>2407670
Misread as:
>Women are the most dangerous species known to man, they eat dirt, causing a permanent loss of soil. A time will come when the women will devour the entire planet, and move on to other worlds to eat just like they did to our own.
>>
>dragonglies can sting
>bumblebees can't
>>
>>2407659
He's insane. A worm physically can't "over-aerate" the soil. The most it could hope to achieve is displacing enough soil that the tree simply falls over, but the way worms process dirt without significantly displacing it means that won't happen.
>>
>>2407659
Night crawlers and earthworms are not native to north america
>>
>>2407720
There haven't been worms in most of North America since the last ice age and most woodland species of plant are evolved for deep leaf litter substrate that worms eat.
>>
>>2407720
Wait, seriously!?
>>
Turtles will only grow as big as their tank allows
>>
This is kind of nature related. When I was a kid people told me the clay you could find by digging down into the earth was poison. I believed that shit until I was a teen then one day I was just like "that's fucking retarded"
>>
>>2407394
Not really related, but i have a question
Why do i usually find dead worms on stone paths next to actual ground after rain?
Has anyone ever seen them?
>>
>>2407688
Wait what?
I was told that bumblebees can bite
I had no idea about dragonflies
>>
>>2410559
They can come to the surface without drying out, so they do. Under normal circumstances they turn around if the soil starts drying out.

While they're on the surface they crawl onto somewhere where they can't burrow, so when the rain stops they dry out and die.
>>
>>2407640
I would believe it. In fact, i see no reason not to believe it now.
>>
>dolphins ejaculate so hard it could break your neck if you gave them head
>>
cutting a worm in half makes two worms
>>
>>2407670
>>
>>2411215
Wait thats not true?
>>
>>2411361
it is for some worms
>>
>>2411361
>>2411402
My understanding is that the head end will survive and end up with a new tail. the tail end will not do anything.
I'm by no means an expert though

it doesn't work for annelids which are the worms you are probably thinking of (earthworms, leeches). it only works for planarians (pic related).
please stop murdering the worms in your garden
