That's actually a pretty humane, if not sloppy way of disposing of them. There's videos of it you can watch online. It's extremely fast. It'd be like if you were dumped into a vacuum-powered grinding machine, you'd just get smushed in a millisecond.

Sounds gruesome but is too quick to be painful.

Yeah I wish I had one of those machines. It's so awkward when I get a deformed chick or male I don't need. I just feed them to my dogs and it's always so gruesome.

I think Germany is trying to stop this by developing a technique to determine the sex of the chick before it even hatches. It's just way more humaine and costs them less to do so anyway.

It would cost more to raise them than they would sell for. There are chickens bred for eggs and chickens bred for meat, crossing over doesn't tend to be very cost or space efficient.
