Does anyone else love hummingbirds?
They're pretty great because they
>are always cute
>don't destroy or shit on everything
>pollinate your flowers
>are aggressive little shits, but since they're small it's like an aggressive manlet, it's cute
Name a better bird
Protip: you can't

I love them too. They're so fast and they're kind of assholes but in a cute endearing way. Also I love their sparkly feathers.
They're pretty neato. I have a feeder but they're too fast and skittish for me to get pictures that are better than a blur.
I used to live in Washington state, and I miss the 3 or 4 kinds of hummingbirds out there. I now live in Virginia where there is exactly 1 species of hummingbird.
Pic related, I miss these sparklebirbs.

I'm also only in the ruby throated area, so yeah having 3 or 4 would be awesome. I've heard there are a some that will winter in WA, is that true?
I've got 8 feeders up atm and my numbers are slowly going up. I've got a few females that are sticking around with the bully males

fun fact. Hummingbirds are solitary birds. With the exception of a few weeks after the younglings fledge, all birds will chase off other birds as they're viewed as threats to their food source.

I'm not sure about wintering species, I'm afraid.
Question for anyone with hummingbird feeders: did you see the hummingbirds before you got the feeders or did they just appear when you put the feeders out?
I want to get some feeders, but have no idea if hummingbirds live in my neighborhood.

Putting feeders up will attract birds. Having plants/flowers they like will help too, but feeders will keep them around until they migrate.
However you must change and clean the feeders every 2-3 days (depending on temperature) or fungus can develop that will KILL the birds (swells up their tongue and they can't eat). Don't worry around buying nectar, just 1 part white sugar to 4 parts water. No need to add dye.
Personally I like hummzinger feeders because they're easy to clean and have a built in ant moat, but they're not as pretty as a traditional bottle feeder. Pic related is what I use.

I love them, but I've never seen one. I'm in Yuroop, after all.

Thanks for the info, anon
Was visiting my stepbro in a park and this old lady came up to us and asked if we wanted to see baby hummos in nests. Gladly accepted.
