Cuttlefish males sometimes resemble the females, and when a larger dominant male and female are breeding he joins the festivities disguised as a second female. The female's eggs are fertilized with both the dominant male's eggs and the craftier mimic's eggs, thus ensuring that she has diverse offspring.
