I found this little guy at work while i was watering plants. i found him in a fern and i just can identify what he is.
he's about 1 1/2 inches long. main color is a light grey/brown and has some brown on his wings. if possible i want to keep it as a pet (if its still there tomorrow) and i want to know how to take care of him.
This is weird, it's resting with its wings folded up like a butterfly.
Eh, a lot of moths don't even have mouths. The most important thing when keeping bugs is to keep a piece of wet paper in with it so it can get water. Even if it can eat, insects die faster without water than without food.
This little guy is really cute. I swear I've seen something like this before, I just can't remember where and what.

It's not that(?) but close, is there another picture without the high contrast flare?

Ocola Skipper Butterfly?
*rubs chin* Whatever it is, butterfly is likely.
Get thee to a garden centre and get a Lantana plant. It's spring right now so you might be able to get a cheap one that comes in cell packs.

I've used to work at a flower shop AND I've done a stint at a garden centre, the many interesting critters I've found! Had a pet grasshopper one winter, came in with a box of fillers.
You can set up a butterfly habitat with a tomato cage or some bamboo sticks, saran wrap (so you can see) and glaze so it can breath, probably poke some holes in the saran wrap too.

Though since it's not winter right now, it might be best to leave it alone or let it go. I think it's illegal to capture butterflies...and I don't think there are any invasive butterfly species? (Which is why I never would have let the grasshopper from South America go even if it was in the summer.
