animals have come to many different conclusions. Some bury eggs in the sand to protect them from predators
others nurse their babies and rear them very carefully
others give birth to hundreds and hundreds of spawn and just hope some of them manage to survive

These are only a few of many examples.
Now consider the panda...at first it looks like they have no strategy at all, what is their game?
Well, believe it or not they have a symbiotic relationship with another species...and that one is us.
Much like bees pollinate flowers. Pandas have evolved to be so aesthetically desirable to humans that we will breed and rear their young for them and guarantee they continue on as a species

Pandas are way more hardcore than we give credit for.
They have been around for millions of years and while so many other species died out for one reason or another, pandas are still kicking it. Sure, now mostly because we think they are adorable and are an easy cash grab. The cuteness of pandas also benefits other species, since not all money people spent donating to pandas, tigers, etc goes specifically to helping that specific species.

Pandas have evolved and adapted to be chill ass motherfuckers. Look at brown bears, polar bears and black bears. They have to hunt, forage, protect their young from other bears and hibernate. They spend a ridiculous amount of energy doing this, and are often at the risk for starvation if they can't forage or hunt enough before winter.

Pandas? Nope. Their natural range used to be MUCH larger but even then in a relatively small range, avoid each other except during mating. They don't want to fight, and there was plenty of food to go around. Their bamboo forests were basically endless. They don't need to hunt or dig, just roll around and eat bamboo. The only threat to a panda is predators against their babies and pandas in the wild reproduce just as much as any other species of bear. They breed much more in captivity now because we found out that they needed specific conditions - which is not unique to pandas. There are plenty of other animals very difficult to breed in captivity but China made a solid for pandas now.

Pandas don't stress. They aren't battling the elements, nature or cannibalism(at most when giving birth to two cubs, pandas will only raise one and may eat/abandon the other). Pandas don't gotta do shit while everyone else struggles for survival.

Irrelevant question as we are the only species that can think long term like this. Animals are driven by instinct and short term decisions. and in virtually every case an animal will choose to save his life before a good fuck.

if an animal is driven by instincts then it will choose to stay and mate if the drive to mate is stronger than the drive to flee
