>tfw it gets too hot here and can't afford a water chiller
Would having one in front of my AC work? Save some of the water from the tank during water changes and make a giant ice cube?

My AC keeps my room freezing in 90 degree weather. I usually only need ice in the transitional periods in Spring and Fall.

I'd just be worried relying on the AC too much, as if it shit out while I wasn't home I don't know how long they can withstand warmer temps. Without AC, my whole house will easily reach 95+. I usually completely abandon my upstairs in the summer since it's expensive just to have one, let alone multiple AC's running.
Gets around to 80 in my basement at worse.

They can't handle it for a prolonged period of time, they will suffocate. I'd say save up for the tank chiller, or go with reptiles.

>go with reptiles
>often buried under 4ft of snow and power outages
>freezing for 8ish months of the year
I plan on moving as soon as I can because this is bullshit for pets other than cats and dogs. Otherwise I'd be drowning in tortoises.
Thanks for the help, though.

I would love one, my basement tends to stay pretty cool
my neighbors growing up had some that were able to survive the summers in their ac'd house but 70 is still a bit too warm for them from what I've read.
my basement with ac tends to stay more than cold enough that I wouldn't need a chiller but I'd probably get one anyways because why chance it.
