Britbong here. Could a platypus survive in my country? I'd assume they'd struggle since they're natives to a habitat on the other side of the world, and I don't want one enough to move that far, though Australia seems like a nice enough place outside of everything in nature wanting to kill you. (Except maybe the platypi.)
(at least for a country full of convicts)
Tasmania actually has the best platypus population per capita. And apparently it's full of domesticated australians. To answer your first question they should be fine as long as their platypusary is constructed correctly and they get enough to eat. Also the entrance to their burrow and tunnel systems needs to have a flexible platypus shaped squeegee on it or else they can catch pneumonia and die. They like to bask if they feel safe where they are so a large reptile warming stone would probably go over well. That all being said this is your daily reminder to want a platypus.
This has gone on long enough
>>2454691
You've got about until you want one to go anon. Bad news for you and good news for everyone else. This is your everyday reminder to want a platypus.
>>2423175
You've got to understand that's for the rest of the worlds good. Roos thrive in Australia, what do you think would happen if a population managed to get a foothold somewhere else?
>>2454935
Well I want one now.
ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? HUH?
>>2455032
I rather have roos than the feral hogs that already got introduced. Probably better eating with fewer possible parasites to boot.
>>2455135
Hogs are both robust and smart, they're a massive problem here as well. However they don't compete with roos so in the end you just have both.
>>2455051
Yes it does make me happy that you have seen the light on how delightfully wantable platypuses are. Welcome to the team. Daily reminder to want a platypus.
>>2455323
Cute
>>2455142
I can hunt both so it's all good. I could grind up roo's and make 90% big mac's I would not however grind up platypuses. They are for cuddles not for burgers. Daily reminder to want a platypus.
>>2387845
Looks like everytime I come to /an/ there is a platypus thread.
I just looked at the OP date and thread was opened on May.
mfw
>cuddle a platypus
that's like coddling a scorpion, eh shitposter?
>>2456888
Why?
>>2456888
Only the males. The female duck puppy's were made for platonic cuddling. Daily reminder to want a platypus.
>>2443425
Goddamn OP. You win.
Maybe he/she could live in a pond in the backyard, like a koi pond? Or do they require moving water? If they're diggers then it would take a hell of a fence to keep them in. I could stock the pond daily with food and lure the plat out with plat treats for daily cuddles til it climbs out of the water when I open the back door and waddles up to get it's cuddles/plat treats.
Do you think a breeding pair is a good idea? Sell the offspring to safe homes to spread the joy? Or are they solitary?
What are the odds of this ever becoming legal or these things ever getting domesticated so that they can be maintained slightly more cheaply?
I want a platypus!
>>2457559
Good good soon. Or not so much because every day I will remind /an/ to want a platypus. Daily reminder to want a platypus.
>>2458099
Holy shit, Anon. How long have you been at this now? I sort of want a platypus now.
>>2458115
About two years. Don't want a platypus on my account though. Want one for the cuddles and because they are delightful. Everyday reminder to want a platypus.
>>2456894
Anon has not yet seen the light of cuddling the duck puppy. Daily reminder to want a platypus.

>>2461089
Gee, thanks for the update.
In the two years this thread has been active you would have thought this has been brought up dozens of times.
>because it has you fucking mong, read the thread and want a fucking platypus
>>2461108
There's no need to fight we can all want a platypus at the same time. Some anons are just a little slower on the wanting than others. Daily reminder to want a platypus.
Alright, I admit it. I want a platypus.
>>2461600
Good now the rest of you do the same.

Wait IKEA sells meatballs? WTF are you doing Sweden? Seriously WTF are you doing on several levels? Also want a platypus instead of all of the world's refugees. They are much more delightful. Daily slightly political reminder to want a platypus.
>>2463872
Ikea also sells cinnamon rolls. That feel when no platypus shaped cinnamon roll.
>>2464142
I think you're onto something. A cinnapus roll sounds like a lovely treat.
It's too bad the local donut shop doesn't speak English, they make cute things occasionally.

Anons you just gave me a reason to break out my KitchenAid. I'm making some this weekend. I'll use the frosting to give them their white platypus tummies. Daily reminder to want a platypus. Coming soon ck reminder to want a cinnamon platypus cake.

Your own video is convincing me not to have one.

>>2468543
By being superiorly delightful. Daily reminder that echidnas are cool but Platypuses a better and you should want one.
>>2469502
That was totally supposed to be a platypus.

Pets aren't allowed in my development. But I'm sure that If I had a platypus, I'd be the only one who did.

I think that would be almost a certainty. Almost time to start a new thread. Daily reminder to want a platypus.

>>2414504
RIP in platypus Steve
>>2444015
Platyposting is like fucking fight club. Next month we'll all have a pet platypus and the month after that we'll be blowing up buildings for OP.
>>2445377
>American news
>trans platypus
Makes about as much sense as trans male or whatever. God, when did the US become such a joke?
>>2473287
Fuck me, if I get a platy out of it, I'm in
You win OP, I want one
>>2473289
For the record that is not me.
>>2473047
He looks cool, but that would definitely kill a real platypus if he tried to fire it. Platypus are far to sensitive to concussion to be around gunshots safely.
>>2473287
>>2473290
I like it.
Rule 1 want a platypus
Rule 2 Don't talk to Austrailia about wanting a platypus.
Rule 3 operation platy mayhem.
This is your daily reminder to want a platypus.
I wonder if OP took into account what kind of impact the p-pus pet trade he's trying to create might have on the species.
>>2473375
>too sensitive to concussion to be around gunfire
FUCK. You almost had me, OP. I'm a hunter and while reading about platypussies ITT really made me want to train a hunting platypus partner to swim out and grab ducks or pheasant that went down over water. Back to the drawing board I guess. Good luck OP.
>>2473604
I wonder if this anon realizes not one single platypus has been adopted or removed from the wild as a result of OPs efforts
>>2473604
They survived the fur trade before they were made a protected species. Hopefully it would be like a more responsible tiger trade in Texas. There are more live tigers in texas than there are in the wild. Rednecks might actually save the species from extinction.
>>2473611
I will admit that a platypus can not fill every conventional animal companion role, but i still think that you should want one.
>>2473613
>That you know of. Just becase it may not have happened yet doesn't mean that it won't happen.
This is your daily reminder to want a platypus.
Baby platypi are puggles but baby echidnas are pugilists. Prove me wrong.
>>2475134
I don't have a problem with it, but Morgan Freeman might.

>Effect on humans
"Although powerful enough to paralyze smaller animals,[4] the venom is not lethal to humans. However, it produces excruciating pain that may be intense enough to incapacitate the victim. Swelling rapidly develops around the entry wound and gradually spreads outward. Information obtained from case studies shows that the pain develops into a long-lasting hyperalgesia that can persist for months but usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks.[5][9] A clinical report from 1992 showed that the severe pain was persistent and did not respond to morphine.
In 1991, Keith Payne, a former member of the Australian Army and recipient of the Victoria Cross (Australia's highest award for valour) was struck on the hand by a platypus spur, while trying to rescue the stranded animal. He described the pain as worse than being struck by shrapnel. One month later he was still experiencing pain in that hand. In 2006, Payne reported discomfort and stiffness when carrying out some physical activities, such as using a hammer.[citation needed]
There have been no reported human fatalities.[5]"
That sounds fucking horrible. Makes me surprised nobody has weaponized this shit.
