How come tapirs live in tropical Americas, and tropical Asia, but not in temperate and arctic Americas, and temperate and arctic Asia??!
If tapirs crossed from the Americas to Asia or vice versa, wouldn't there have to be cold adapted species to cross the Bering land bridge in the ice age?
If there were cold adapted species, why did they go extinct?

Tapirs have very short hair. In northern done they would need longer hair. I. The tropics their only predators ate jaguars and maybe snakes for babies.
They were never build for cold and with large felines being their main hunters in SA they didn't evolve for colder climate.
Even with jaguars they are semi,- aquatic. No need to evolve further.

Tapirs are visible among the man-apes at the beginning of the movie "2001".

According to meemaw and peppep, they visited a zoo once, long ago, before I was born. While there, they saw a tapir with an erect penis which was dragging with some force along the ground. Since then, mom has apparently hated Tapirs.
