I have a male Aussie shepherd that is a year and 5 months old. I have an opportunity to get another Aussie puppy about 8 weeks old. Would this be a good idea? The reason I'm considering this is because when I'm not home, my dog just sits by the front door until I'm back home and I was thinking if I got him a companion they can both keep each other company. My dog is great with all animals and people.

My older sister has a mini Schnauzer she doesn't care for (no mental or physical exercise, the girl is so starved for attention, she gets neurotic) and decided to get another one for some retarded reason. She picked up a 6-8 year old neutered male but dumped it on us because he didn't get along with her dog.

He's been with us for two weeks and is pretty chill so far. He's a good eater but still seems really nervous around me (generally looks away when I pet him). I walk him two or three times a day, one or two ten minutes when the weather is too hot and a 40+ minute walk at the end of the day (gets another 40+ in the morning from my dad), have been slowly introducing hide and seek with his kibble as they're sniffers, just pet him some times, and have tried a few training sessions with not much success but I was told to expect that as he's had this many changes so soon.

How long do you guys think it will take for him to open up more?

It's actually pretty damn good for a bulldog. He has some American in him and isn't inbred to shit so his muzzle isn't squished against his face like most bullies. He's fairly fit too but that's because he runs a lot and loves to play constantly, he's certainly not a lazy dog. Overall he's pretty healthy. His biggest health issues come from:
A. Him laying on the heat vents for too long during the winter and getting minor burns
B. Rubbing his muzzle all over rough things while he's playing which causes his bully warts to start bleeding

That skunk was a no stuffing toy, it had 3 squeakers in it that he swiftly destroyed. He got to chew on the casing for the next day, but I ended up having to toss it when he started to eat it. My dog is spayed.

But I think it's a deeply personal decision whether or not you spay/neuter your animals. It isn't as black and white as some like to push it as. It comes with health risks as well as benefits, and it's complicated--the sex and age of the dog are all factors that play into these risks.

Given that, I think there are plenty of good reasons someone might have an intact dog, or choose to have their dog spayed/neutered.

No, it's purely cosmetic, but it mostly serves no purpose unless you have a hunting dog(which most people don't). They'll be a bit more prone to ear infection and such, but cleaning their ears regularly should help you keep on top of that.

If she doesn't have a chip, I would leave a "found" report at your local city shelter. If no one claims her, go ahead and keep her! She's really cute.

Also I disagree with the other anon--she definitely looks like a puppy to me. Maybe 4 months old? If you post some more pics (and maybe one of her teeth, if you can,) I can give a better estimate. But she does look like a puppy to me for sure. Also looks like an Australian Shepherd, so she'll probably grow to about 50 pounds, pretty decent sized.

Anon is right though, any kind of dog barking can help protect your house from intruders because they won't want to draw attention to themselves. Consider it like a car alarm.

He's actually my parent's dog (had him since I was ~12) so I'm not sure how much they paid but that number wouldn't surprise me. Though him being a clown face would probably have made him a bit cheaper - apparently they had to sign papers from the breeder agreeing they would neuter him before he could mate in order to take him home. Corgi breeders are very particular about breed purity.

Shaving double coated dogs doesn't help keep them cool, it just takes away their protection from the sun. Their coat is designed to insulate them from the heat as well as the cold. Not to mention that shaving it can damage the coat so it doesn't grow back properly. Please do a simple google search to learn more, and reconsider doing this to your dog in the future.

Purebreeds are expensive. I was going to get a Boston Terrier but they are upwards of 1k USD. Same for Bulldogs, french/english or mixed.
I did get lucky with my new pupper though. Just make sure a Corgi is what you really want. And don't leave chip bags laying around.

Apparently if you get them a special toy/treat that's only given in their crate and get them slowly used to it you can get them to love the crate. My dog's been sleeping in my bed since he was a pupper, though, so I don't have much experience with this.

For some dogs it's a texture thing. Used to have a pit/boxer mix that would chew up golf balls that made it over the fence and bring them to us, only thing we found that she never managed to chew up was this one almost pvc feeling bone we got at petco. No idea on the brand, but it was just plain white and plasticy. Actually, now I want to list the things that dog has chewed through. Braided steel cable, a wooden fence, a car tire, a black guy's leg (nignogging it up in our backyard with a gun), a hedgehog, countless pairs of women's underwear, a tractor tire, and a ridiculous amount of women's underwear. She was a good girl. An expensive girl, but a good girl.
