Hey guys, there's a bird posting at my front door. For almost a week now. Anyone know what variety of avian dinosaur this might be? Brown pigeon is my best guess :P
Already put some water in a bottle cap near it. Any food I can give it? I think the father went to get some cigarettes from the convenience but never came back :(

It's a Mourning Dove. It's an adult, so just don't disturb it. It's probably incubating it's eggs.

>Mourning Dove
Thanks, i'll look it up. Yea, its sitting on a couple of eggs. I won't disturb it.
Leave the dove alone. You'll stress it and risk abandonment if it believes it's eggs are beyond hope.

Will do. I try not to spook it, but it is right above the front door...

Mourning doves are nice burd. Don't knock dad. That's probably him. Mourning dove pairs have very strong chemistry, and they will take turns sitting on the eggs, unlike most birds where it's up to the female. The male will be sitting most of the day and they swap out before nightfall and he will go off to eat at night when it's more dangerous to be out.
Just leave them be, they will do okay as long as they remain relatively undisturbed. They will probably lay more than one clutch though. Mourning doves make a lot of babies. From the start of incubation to when the babies leave the nest it will be about a month. Then they will start to do it again after awhile.
