Please help. I am going nuts trying to identify this tree.

Lake Erie, Pennsylvania.

Following are pictures of leaves, leaf cluster, catkins

I thought maybe it was aspen by the leaves but I dont know very much about trees. Im told it turns red in autumn.

Thank you in advance. I'll be back later to look at your conclusions.

Have a good day.

Some type of mullberry
>>
I think it's an ornamental and not a native species. Which mean it could be fucking anything really.
>>
>>2385443

I am told it bears no fruit or nuts, but the source is dubious.

>>2385446

That may be. It almost certainly was a landscape plant ages ago. I am right on the lake 80 feet away in a vacation community.

I've sorted through Hazels, Alders, Aspens, Birches, Hornbeams, Poplars but cant find a match. I'm learning a lot which is fun but can find no answer.

I only am halfway to thinking its an Aspen because of this page-

http://www.cookforest.com/articles/trees/bigtooth-aspen_large.cfm

- but the catkins are not a match. I know they are spike catkins but nothing else.

Are there mulberries that turn red in Autumn? I cant find any, and the clusters dont seem to match.

The leaves have those curious near-lobes on the sides.

You may be right, I just cant find a match though.

Here is a close up of the leaf, cluster and catkins again, but with coins juxtaposed for scale.

Right, its the most common tree in the northeast that's why I can't find a match.

It is a maple with no samaras and a mulberry tree with no history of mulberries yet stands near 30 feet tall.

This was a pointless waste of time. I could've taken the time to shoot pictures of a tossed salad for its gotten me here. I sense this board would more honestly be called /pets/, Shame on me for being fooled so easily.

While this is very true, you're still being a faggot. How about you throw a rope around a limb of your precious fucking tree, and hang yourself.

There is no maple detritus anywhere. I would not have asked if it was simply a maple of some sort. Had there been any other detritus or tree litter about, I would've included it. I am no botanist but I know its not a common red maple.

I didn't make the effort of showing the leaf clusters and showing the catkins so I could hear wild guesses about the most common trees known. People are ignoring the details, see the mild lobes on full grown leaves and calling maple. A lot of trees have lobed leaves. There are no berries or nuts or samaras period. When I say there is no berries or nuts, I am specifically including the surrounding litter, meaning none at any time. This isnt the sort of place that would tolerate berries and bird shit everywhere.

I did find some interesting new litter but cant be sure if its from this particular tree. I would show pictures but no one is even bothering to note the catkins, stem, foliage color or the cluster. These are the details that people who would KNOW would be able to hone in on.

Instead I get "red maple/brown recluse hurr durr". Apparently I am supposed to focus on one aspect and ignore conflicting foliage, catkins, the absence of fruits, nuts, samaras, detritus, litter, clustering and branch formation.

It's got lobes sorta kinda, therefore it must be the most common tree in the region regardless of all other aspects.

Nature board indeed. If you can read this, you should be hanging your head in shame. Hanging right now. All of you. At least the mulberry guy must've matched more than one feature.

Shameful display. Including me, for disgracing myself by relying on /an/. I can't believe I told people about this thread. You've humiliated us all with this failure. I must never speak of this degrading debacle again.

I need a shower. Ugh.

Behold- a fine elderberry bush growing by the bird-feeder. Sambucus mexicana, if I'm not mistaken, judging by the serrated edges proximal to the petioles.

How the grosbeaks love to frolic in its branches all the live-long day. You should see the chipmunks that cache its seeds every morning.

Consider the following...
>What is the difference between monecious and diecious?
>What is a male tree?
>What is a seedless cultivar of one of the most extensively propagated landscape trees in the northern hemisphere?

Yesterday I hesitated to answer for fear of making you look stupid. Thankfully you've done that marvelously without any help.

OP, you really need to backup and look at this rationally. And look at the branching, habit, bark and root girdling of your subject, consider applying Occam's Razor, or get a copy of Core and Ammond's dichotomous key of woody plants. At least look at an online nursery catalog. This doesn't need to be personal, but your tree is one of the hundreds of commercially available seedless cultivars of red maple.

Relax, Im just having fun out of frustration in the absence of definitive answers.

I admit the leaf looks "mapleish". But the leaves haven't matched anything I've seen online that are in fact maple. I've gotten closer matches with alders, hazels, poplars and so on. Online identifiers seem like crap because keys lead me to options that dont exist and become dead ends. The branching sends me in circles too.

I appreciate your patience and sharing your knowledge; obviously much of it is over my head.

I will at least try to look at this nursing catalog, if I can find one. Image matching hasn't been helpful because I typically dont see details I am looking for.

And I will think twice before making a bet and hoping 4chan will come to the rescue.

And now, this fine potted palm. Alternatively, a metaphor for my predicament.

And thank you for the perspective.

Flowering dogwood
>>
>>2386637
Cornus florida. One of the pink flowering cultivars.
Soon this dogwood's bracts will fall, Rhododendrons will bloom, then and all will be green in the landscape. Suddenly small to medium sized Dogwood trees much like these will bloom again!!!
These later blooming dogwood are a cultivated Oriental species, C. kousa.
