This. A dog or cat can't hold a gun or a katana.
A raccoon might be able to one day.

I did always wonder this.

In the same vein, how do Opossums fare as pets? I hear generally positive things.

Because the vast majority of them carry a unique roundworm which can infect humans and whose larvae will enter your brain and kill/neurologically maim you before you realize what's wrong.

They need concrete rooms or they'll destroy every wall and the floor. No one wants to domesticate them because of their nuisance level.

They're really hard to raise. They're scavengers so they'll trash your house and make it look like a homeless shelter. Plus, most of them are feisty as hell. Taking care of them is a ton of work and most people don't have the patience or time to raise one.
>>
>>2382522
They need a very specific diet, but as long as you stick to it they make good pets. Absolute shit tier lifespans though.

Raccoons aren't great pets because they will completely destroy your house.
>>
>>2382753

It's almost like the vast majority of people don't physically interact with raccoons.

Post some cute raccoon gifs
>>
Raccoons are ridiculously good at storing fat when kept by people they often balloon up fast. You'd have to be very careful about how you feed them as to avoid obesity and it's related health problems.

Nothing. Urban raccoons are already reliant on man for almost all of their needs and thriving because of it. They're spreading further and further into domestic habitats as they begin to collectively realize this. Eventually they will be on the level of the "domestic but not domesticated" house sparrow.

we have more than enough domestic animals. Hell, we even have a surplus of them roaming the streets. Raccoons would serve no more purpose than a pet cat or dog. They would be like giant pet rats for expert owners or some shit. Do not want.

one lives in my kitchen ceiling. I rent an apartment so it's fine with me, it's not any louder than my other upstairs neighbors. I don't need a movie to remind me about raccoons, I hear one talking to itself daily.
>>
>>2383182
Yeah, and thats why they live a year and a half in the wild.
Opossums need a ton of attention towards their calcium/phos ratios, along with protein and vitamin A, or they get metabolic bone disease almost immediately.

>Domesticating a Jew

Last time someone tried that, six gorillion died.

brother has one as a pet. raised it from a baby he found.
it's a little shit honestly. he hasn't fucked up his house too bad (only major damage was when he tore up the carpet), but you can't have any food out in the open as it knows how to open jars, bags, tubawear, and could probably figure out any container really. all food is kept literally locked up as it always figured out how to get on counter and open carpets. yet to learn how to open the fridge but he thinks it's mainly because the racoon isn't strong enough to open it plus it's the kind with the freezer on the bottom.
though, it is probably the coolest pet I have ever seen. very smart, fun to play with as it can actually do stuff like throw a ball back to you, play hide and seek, and is quite soft and loves to cuddle.
coolest thing is seeing the ratcoon use his dog as a mini horse. it climbs up it's leg and sits on it's back and grabs the dogs neck fat like a leash and tugs on it to make the dog go.
dog hates it but we all think it's cute af

In all honesty though I sometimes rescue these guys and they have a bad habit of just destroying everything. It's in their nature to just make holes in walls, rip things to pieces and constantly fiddle with things. I don't know if you could even breed it out because it seems to be a defining trait.
