An egg is a hen's period.
It only has a chick fetus in it if the egg was fertilized, which doesn't typically happen in commercial farm environments.

No because you most likely only eat unfertilized eggs. Pic related can be the sign of a fertilized one, but it doesn't have to be. Among older chickens, it's possible that some tissue gets encased in the egg during development and also cause that look.
When you take a lamp and shine through the egg you should be able to spot a dot that shows you it's fertilized.
The small white spots are what turn into chicken embryos. Egg yolk is its food source. They wont let roosters near chickens when they want infertile eggs.
In order for the egg to be fertilized and carry a life in it the chicken had to be pregnant, which is impossible considering they are locked in tiny cages for all their life, away from any male or force of nature.
Female birds of any species lay unfertilized eggs sometimes when they reach adulthood, just because it's a hormonal thing such as women's period. Chickens are manipulated so this process happens constantly.

light dictates when chickens lay eggs. more light = more eggs. hens kept for laying will be under artificial light for longer periods than regular daylight so they lay more often.

There is a machine that does this test automatically in the facility. It's part of the quality control.
