So I just got a 250 gallon tank, it was used to raise salmon for school kids to see, what should I do with it? Any recommendations?

Raise salmon obviously.

Cool pets and delicious meat all in one. My uncle did that.

quadruple check the seals so you don't destroy your house with it
>>
>>2378148
Or don't put it in the house, a filled 250G is around 3000 pounds once you factor in a sturdy stand and the sump. You'd have to quadruple check the floor supports in addition to the seals.
>>
>>2378162
>You'd have to quadruple check the floor supports
modern building codes require floors to support about 10 times that much.

On a side note I have a 1000 gallon tank (over 10,000lbs) on a wood-beam floor and it made the floor sag almost 1/4 inch. Floors are built to handle that sort of stuff. You could park trucks on them if you wanted to.

Get shrimps,whatever you do,also snails

What did you put in the 1000g? I can't even imagine a tank that size at home.

Think it might be big enough for a betta?

No,bettas need at least a ocean size tank

What's the depth? Doesn't quite look 2' from the pic.

I would get the best of both worlds and make a paludarium (or close to it). 1-2 inches substrate, 8-10 inches of water, and several large pieces of wood/rock sticking out of the water covered in emersed plants and mosses. There are dozens of frogs, toads, salamanders, or newts that could be kept in that environment, not to mention hundreds of species of fish.

I'm a sucker for small animals in huge tanks though. With a tank that big, a reef is the obvious answer.

>>2378094
A few big Amazon swords and a big school of one of the wild-type swordtails. X. Montezuma or Mayae would look great.

It's 24"-25"-96" aka 2 feet by 2 feet 1 inch by 8 feet. I was thinking of a frog for the center piece but have a full on ecosystem inside. My dream is to have an enclosed space that only needs light

Bro, go with a Bobbit worm, super easy to care for, really cool to watch and they are super affectionate creatures. They love a good nuzzle on the head. If you let you hand just float above it it will come out of it burrow and give you hand a cuddle.

Bobbit worms are the best tank pet.

>>2378094

Not to mention they're really tank mate friendly. They act like cleaner wrasse, cleaning all the other fish and keeping them healthy. All aquatic tank fauna love them too, having a Bobbit worm is a sign of a healthy and happy aquarium. There is no reason not to get a Bobbit worm, literally none.
>>
Make it a huge saltwater tank.
Add live rock, live sand, and coral
But, no fish.

Tell people you keep a ghost shark in it and, if they're lucky, they might catch a glimpse of it if they watch for long enough.
>>
>>2378318
I'd sit in it like a jacuzzi tub then.

No jokes, I have this strange fantasy of swimming in an aquarium that contains tropical fish.

I've sat it in it when it's empty, but there's too much rock in it to sit in full. Plus you'd have to change out about 1000 gallons of saltwater after putting your nasty ass in there. A full water change on that tank costs about $400.

I support this. FW stingrays are awesome and this is a great sized tank for them. Depends if they are legal in your state or not. See pic.

Saltwater is cool too but it is a lot more work. Stingrays would be fairly easy in comparison and would look like an amazing show piece.

Also it looks like it's acrylic? If it is, doing the high powered lights for coral will lead to massive amounts of algae on the acrylic and you will scratch the shit out of the glass. If you do fish only with freshwater, you shouldn't have much algae build up and much easier to clean.

If you got stingrays you could even breed them and sell the pups for a good price.
>>
>>2380319
from what I've read FW stingrays are considerably more delicate than most SW fish.

Sharks and rays of any sort are top-tier difficult.

I'd put a redtail catfish in it or some kind of arowana

i had three nice big docile pet rats a few years ago, and i caught mouse by the tail in a conibear trap
as i walked past the rats' cage door (which i usually just left open) with the mouse in the trap to let it go outside, the three of them had their heads out trying to see what was going on
so without really thinking i held the mouse up to show them and they fucking grabbed it so fast, threw it onto the floor of their cage, cornered it, and ate it head first living not a trace
savage little fuckers
>>
>>2383537
Honestly the guppie thing was funny,
I was thinking about catching a rattlesnake but I know my retarded ass will eventually get bit. And I'm thinking a half water half land with shrimp and mountain minnows with bugs on land and a big bullfrog or some type of frog(s) as the centerpiece(s)
>>
>>2383732
do snakes. then make a business extracting rattlesnake venom
>>
>>2384231
I had a friend that was going to do this.
Apparently there's like a lot of licensing and certification or something
>>
I once had a big tank I put a bunch of toads in (Fowler's and American toads) and planted some live plants with some water and organic potting soil with gravel at the bottom. I would feed them crickets. The crickets started eating the plants and reproducing on their own. The frogs would shit out the crickets and fertilize the plants. I only ever had to pour water in there every once in a while. The crickets were loud, though. The frogs would get horny and fuck if I played bassy techno.
