Small, generic mouse cat toys are the only things that seem to be universally enjoyed at all ages. Beyond that, it's just a matter of preference and how playful your cat is. Spending big money on toys is pointless for cats. Mine gets more enjoyment out of q tips and crumpled receipts than any other bought toy.

I generally just use a piece of rope I pulled out from a pair of old gym shorts. I hang some sheets over my bed so underneath it is like a little fort, and I drag the rope around the sheets and my cat goes crazy for it. It actually gives me a shock sometimes when she's just waiting there and all of a sudden she bursts into the sheets to catch the rope suddenly.

I also use a peacock feather too, but the stem breaks easily and kind of ruins it.

Also, grape stems. No idea why but she fucking loves grape stems.

Not that guy, but grapes and raisins are very poisonous to cats. The stems and leaves, not to my knowledge. Still wouldn't want my cat eating them, but just play should be fine.

That guy, what >>2377539 says seems to be correct from the research I've done online (although it does advise younger cats from playing with them because of digestion issues). I also found that the stems may produce some type of pheromone similar to catnip which explains why my cat loves them and it isn't nearly as uncommon as I thought.

two of them (the most food driven) took to puzzle feeders really well, so every morning my dad sets them up in individual cardboard boxes and lets them go crazy working kibble out of them

One of my cats likes this thing and knows how to turn it on. He also likes lasers, milk jug tabs, tinfoil ball and tinsel cat ball toy. I haven't had luck with much else and it just ends up as junk
