Most ruminants are opportunistic meat eaters.
They do it a lot in dry spells and harsh winters when food isn't as abundant and meat to scavenge is more common (as a result of animals dying due to starvation/weakness). It isn't like they're actually becoming predators or anything.

And? They were already dead. A deer isn't going to see a carcass and ask what animal it was, they're either going to eat it as a result of hunger, or simply skip over it.
