I love Manta Rays, everyone thinks "hurrr le Steve Erwin XDDDD" and hates them
>>
>>2370026
I adore Possums, they're so cool.
>>
>>2370058
Manta rays are unironically my spirit animal
>>
>>2370055
Do we still not know the real reason why manta rays breach? I mean, I know there are multiple theories and that it could be for any combination of those theories, but still

>possums
So true. They're harmless, they eat nature's garbage and they eat ticks, too. Plus, I think they are cute.

For my suggestion: pic related.

actually op posted an oppossum. possums are a completely different animal native to australia
>>2370026
underappreciated by average people standards? if so then basically every reptile except ball pythons, beardies, and leopard geckos. and almost every insect. and almost every fish. basically most ectotherms
>>
>>2370223
reminds me of the frog riding a beetle pic I always see posted. tards don't realize he used chemicals to make the animals stay stationary so he can position them for pictures.
>>
>>2370058
are manta rays the same as stingrays?
>>
>>2370058
That's stingrays you knob.
>>
>>2370326
You're wrong
>>2370322
Yes manta rays are VERY different compared to string rays.
>>
>>2370268
>possum/opossum
While you are 100% correct in the states the O gets left off, almost like a slang term.
Kind of like hermit crabs aren't really crabs, yet the overwhelming majority still refer to them as such, same thing with people saying possum, regardless of the fact thier is already an animal named that.
>>
>>2370334

I didn't know that either.

I am also going to admit that there are apparently two Australian tv animal people and one died a while ago. I could never tell which was which because their names sounded similar also.

Its a bit like the collapse of Yugoslavia. Every time someone explains it to me, I understand it for the length of time they are talking, and when they stop, I forget again completely.

There are just some things that wont stick in my brain.
>>
>>2370058
I loved Steve Irwin but that doesn't mean I hate the animals. Those who do are fucking buttfuck retarded and go against everything he lived for.

Mini cows and longhorns, also babydoll sheep.

When we finally move to some good land for farming they're our #1 priority. Teeny cows are cute, CUTE!
>>
>>2370033
Gorgeous animals. Apparently they're one of Varanus priscas' closest living relatives. Imagine if they had the same pattern.
>>
>>2371195
That's a big dog
>>
>>2371195
Same size as dogs, I'll give you that. But the thing I don't like about them mini cows is they ain't agile and flexible like dogs are. Cows are stiff legged and rigid beasts, I reckon if one of them stamped on your bare foot with those hoofs of theirs it would hurt mighty awful. Dogs, well you see dogs running agility courses, crouching their way through the dog door, and curling up by the fireplace. I don't reckon a cow could do the same.

Actually opossum and possum referred originally to the American version. They stole it for the Aussie relative.

Reminder that it's a convict colony, so it makes sense they'd steal.

Tazmanian Devils

Absolutely feral and they get can get a really horrible disease that rots their skin but apart from that they are pretty cute
>>
>>2370103
In their own language, they have names for each of these tricks
>>
>>2370026
those things find their way into my back yard sometimes and my dog traps it into a corner. it's scary because my dog won't attack it, they just have a stare off and i have to put my dog inside and deal with it myself. sometimes i get a long pole and try to poke it into running out the fence door but it's fucking scary because sometimes it doesn't move and hisses loud as hell at me baring its teeth. i'm scared it's going to charge at me and bite me.
>>
>>2371888
Ohh, that's another good one. A lot of people hate these birds but I really like them. Flocks often come chill in the woods right behind my house and the chorus of their weird calls is super interesting.
>>
>>2374406
I know that's probably nerve-wracking, but they are really just scared pussies. They will put up a scary-looking threat display when cornered (hissing and showing teeth) but they are really unlikely to actually try and come at you. They're just big babies.

Fuck grackles. They're loud, swarming, flying pests. They scare away every other bird at my feeder by being loud and posturing or will just sneak in and steal everything.
I'll admit it's kinda cool to see them all congregate at the HEB parking lot after migrating back south, but that's it.

I'm not trying to be a dick here, I actually genuinely want to know--why are ticks "underappreciated?" I despise them and feel like they don't really have any redeeming qualities that I can appreciate.

As I said, I really hate them and they are terrifying to me. I would really like to know if there's something "good" about them...or even just something interesting. Maybe learning to appreciate them in their own way will help me get over my fear of them.

I blame the unappreciated part on the fact that these things can't be put on display since they'll just punch their way out of any regular aquarium.

That just makes me appreciate them more, for the fact that they're too vicious and badass to be displayed normally

Pink-tongued skinks. Cute, small, can be either dog-tame or adorably feisty and are natural predators. A place where I volunteer has one.

Also Land mullets because they are fucking tanks

One time I took my cat to the vet and put some cat food in it to make her feel calmer. When we were done, I put the carrier in my basement on a shelf.

I moved out of that house about 6 months later. I went down to get the cat carrier and it was on the floor, with the door end on the floor. I went to pick it up and noticed there was a fur blanket inside. But I didn't have a fur blanket.

It was a poor possum. It had gotten in the basement through a broken window, crawled inside to eat the cat food, and when it went to leave, it knocked the carrier off balance onto the floor, sealing it's fate forever. It makes me sad to think how long it took to die in there.
>>
>>2370026

Possums are ticks only natural predator. For that, they're okay in my books. Even if they look like aggressive rat cat hedgehogs.

WHY THEY GOTTA FLY THO
>>
>>2381285
When I was young my step grandmother had shot a mother digging in our trash, and it turned out it had babies, four of them, we took them in until they started getting older and then had rescue take them to a zoo or something. One of them died when they were still babies but the others got to a descent size, they'd hang from peoples fingers and arms by their tails some times but not very often, they did sleep like that occasionally, but normally all bundled into a small ball together.
