like, you gotta be real dumb and have shit luck to die of rat bite fever
Got two neutered boys for my female rat who was a lone survivor. Easiest introduction ever.

what are neutered male rats like
>>2363366
I got bitten by a pet rat. There was so much blood coming out, so no infection. It made a loud sound when the teeth broke my skin, I'll never forget it.
>tfw alberta so no rats
One of my ratos when I was a kid would lick me like a doggo. I'm sure it was just to taste some salt but still it was very cute.

It's a bad idea to get rats if I already own cats, right? I imagine the cats would harrass them 'til the day they die
>>2364070
Even if the cats left them alone the rats would be terrified for awhile.
Every single thread

This is a blue board
Could never get a good picture of them, but here are my two buddies who passed away a year ago

Don't worry anon, most rats will be hesitant to bite if they've been properly socialized
>>2364085
highly unlikely that you'll die from a rat bite..
besides, you gotta pick the right rat, anon! it is possible to get socialized rats from a pet store - assuming that's where you'd go to get one. My girl Morti is an example of this, the second I picked her up she was fairly calm though a little cautious (as any rat wold be meeting a new person) but everything turned out great. She's a wonderful rat :)

This is my other baby Clover, I raised her with a paintbrush, some baby formula, and lots of love. She's a little sassy though.

It's rare as fuck to get, and also rare to die from. There's so few cases a year, the CDC has hardly any statistics on it.
But if you get bitten, wash the wound. If you get flu symptoms later with a rash, fever and joint pain, see a doctor ASAP. That kid was just profoundly unlucky.

Look for a decent breeder in your area. I would only get fish (especially after my LFS closed) and supplies from Petco/Smart
>>2364542
Not that anon but I live in the middle of nowhere. There are no active breeders in my state and the closest is three hours away by car. I suppose I could tough it out and drive but juggling school with work I don't have too much time on my hands :(
