So am I the only who likes to bully my bun?
Sometimes I go easy when I pull on/stroke her ears and boop her nose
Other times I get jokingly sexual like lightly spanking her and teasing her nipples
Once in a while I get some thread and hand her upside down a inch or two off the ground until she starts to cry and wimper
I don't think I'm a sadist since we do cuddle and play most of the time but this is just my way of having fun since I provide the food
>>
>>2361685
My uncle used to bully his bun. After a few weeks it would chase him specifically to dig its teeth in his flesh until he left the room, while it would behave normally around my aunt and other guests.

-bunnies are social creatures. If you're going to buy one, buy 2, preferably a male and female
-neuter the male, spay the female when they reach adulthood
-bunnies live for 10-12 years
-bunnies requires lots of hay and fresh vegetables. they should rarely be eating fruit.
-they need a play area, a cage large enough for them to stretch and run around, and outdoor time
-bunnies do not like being picked up
-no not buy collars or leashes for rabbits. Don't even get harnesses.
>>
>>2361685
That sounds intensely sexual

When my rabbit is on hardfloor I'll push him around gently, my husband and I will play air hockey with him as the puck but if he gets tired of it he can just walk off on his own, he's very loud about what he dislikes. That's about it.

W-why would you touch your rabbits nipples? Mine likes belly rubs but he's a boy so..
>>
Hi. I have a few important questions about rabbits. I live far from the city, i have a large garden, very comfy for any rabbit. Unfortunately, it isnt perfectly closed, and there are foxes out there. My four bunnies disappeared, no one saw them again. I really wanted them to be indoors for the winter, but the dogs make them nervous and they like to bite the cables. They also piss and shit everywhere, making a huge mess in less than a day. How can i make my house suitable for, at least, one bunny? We are still working on the garden. Another thing that bothers me is that my buns usually dont really like being with me, they bite and scratch me until i let them go or feed them. What do?

Tl; dr how do i keep a bunny safe and happy at home and/or at the garden
>>
>>2361685
Holding a rabbit upside down with a string would be both traumatic and painful. Do you have any idea how easily you can tear their skin? You provide her food, but it's not like she has any other fucking option.

You might not be sadist, but you're definitely a fucking retard because you apparently think having a pet is reason enough to abuse it.
>>
>>2362151
Animal nipples are rad. Don't think I've met an animal and not been involved with yanking on them at some point.

>bunnies live for 10-12 years
In your experiences how long have your rabbits lived? My rabbit is a little senior at 6 right now, 7 by the end of the year so I'm beginning to worry about it since I generally see 7-10 as the rabbit age range. He's still as active and alert as ever at least

Bunny average lifespan keeps increasing as we become better at their veterinary care.

My last bun had to be put down at age 11 because of a cancerous growth that crippled him, but other than that he was still pretty healthy. The surgery would have been pretty expensive and because he was so old, the anaesthetic might have killed him anyway. Of course the decision wasn't mine to make as I was still in high school back then.

Guys I have a huge fucking problem on my hands.

>have 10 year old sister
>parents get her 2 girl buns for her birthday
>one has severe behavioural problems
>sister demands a boy bun so they can have babies
>parents cave in
>buns start breeding uncontrollably
>both female buns have a litter every 4 weeks
>parents sell babies to shitty puppy mill type pet stores at 3-4 weeks
>behavioural problems intensify
>sister only cares about the babies and pays no attention to the adults who become borderline feral
>I can't take care of them because I have crippling bun allergies
>gets to the point where both females are repeatedly having stillborn litters and killing their own babies

My parents and sister won't listen to me when I say we need to spay them. They say the rabbits are living the most natural lifestyle possible, since according to them all they do in the wild is eat, shit, and breed. But I know the real reason is that they don't want to make my spoilt little shit of a sister upset that she actually has to care for her animals instead of cuddling cute babies all day.

Does /an/ agree that this situation is fucked up?Are they in the wrong or am I just needlessly paranoid?

Again, I would absolutely take care of them myself if a) I didn't have allergies and b) I lived with my parents.

I've been rehabilitating 5 cottontails ever since their home got destroyed 2 weeks ago. They were covered in fire ants, and one of them had a huge bump on it's head and had chronic seizures.

His seizures stopped, he was eating a lot, and he was growing as fast as the others. You almost couldn't tell him apart from the rest of them, but he was kind of lethargic. He was slow to do things his brothers and sisters were doing, and kind of seemed like he was left a little retarded from whatever hit his head. Hence we named him Mongo.

We planned on keeping him after letting the rest go, since he wouldn't do good in the wild the way he was.

Unfortunately, I found him in the corner of the cage, this morning, completely limp. He was still breathing, but didn't move at all when I picked him up, and he was struggling to keep his eyes open. I knew what was coming, so I wrapped him up in a warm towel and held him. He passed away about 3 hours ago in my arms...

Rest in peace, little buddy. I'm sure you're in rabbit heaven eating all the grass and humping lady bunnies on a bed made of carrots...

Rabbits aren't that fragile. Most sickness comes from poor diet - not enough hay and greens, too much carbs & sugar.

would putting a hutch in my apartment balcony be fine for rabbits? i live in texas so i could put the hutch in the shade when its too hot and turn in away from rain. They'd be able to run around while im home and be locked up at night or while im away. The only thing im worried about is stuff like bugs or feral cats scaring them. Another thing is the balcony floor is concrete so it can get pretty hot. The other option is putting a cage inside but there way too many wires everywhere and my place is a mess. I dont want them getting hurt while there out of the cage. Which should i do /bun/?

Have any of you tried an all greens diet? As in absolutely no pellets, just leafy greens and the occasional veggie as a treat. Also hay, obviously. I read that you can give a normal sized(as in, no fucking dog-sized giant buns) a fourth of their weight in varied greens instead of pellets.

I've been trying it with mine for about a year and I'm pretty happy with the results. She's chubbier because you know, pellets have certain proteins and stuff that helps your bun build muscle, but she's in good health and seems to enjoy it more than pellets.

hey guys, i just adopted a bbunny 2 days ago and am trying to potty train him, he seems to know to go all the way in to pee, but for the poop he will just eat the hay i put in the litterbox and poo outside of it. could it be the litterbox is too small? ive been grabbing all its shit and putting it in in hopes of it figuring it shud go inside to poop also. thanks !

also any recommendations for wat i can do for flooring? right now i just put newspaper, paper and bedding everywhere
>>
>>2371997
oh actually just noticed if i put its regular hay tray next to the litter box he;ll sit inside and eat the hay and pooops. actually i notice it rlly only poops while eating.

Don't own a rabbit, so just curious. But is there ever a time with any rabbit where you can be 100% that they won't run away from you when letting them roam? Feels a bit crappy (in a sad sort of way)

Really depends on the rabbit. I could put my past bun in my unfenced front yard and leave for a few minutes with him just laying there waiting for me to come back, no matter the amount of cars that came by. He was one of those 100% cases. The only actual reason I used a leash on him was because he would get lazy during walks and went to sleep underneath structures I couldn't get him underneath of.

Turtle bun won't get up if you shove him away with a running vacuum cleaner, but he'll flip his shit if the wind knocks an enveloppe off the table so I'm not letting him roam as freely.

Okay /bun/, I have an emergency and I need help. I found a full grown rabbit in the stretch outside my house, run over. Yesterday while mowing, I found a little baby rabbit, so I assume that was his mom and now he's all alone. I took him inside and got him all set up, but now a day later he isn't doing too well. He's totally frozen and won't move, but it's not the fear reflex thing, he's floppy and malible. He's breathing, but looks super out of it. I put him back where I found him a few hours ago and he still hasn't moved. What do I do? I want the qt bunners to live.

I've taken my bunny out to the nearby park a couple times and just let him roam around the grass and trees. Did it around afternoon so there was nobody else in the park, though it did get a little hot (which is the main reason I haven't actually brought him out that many times).

At first I let him roam around the tighter corners of the park where he'd hide between the tree and gate. Eventually he'd feel free enough to just run around in the open, even getting comfortable enough to lie down on the grass in the middle of empty space.

I never really felt the risk of him running away really. I've had him for a few years already however when I first brought him to the park so he was already very familiar with me. I always sat nearby sketching or reading while he'd hop around and occasionally lie down on the grass before looking for a more comfy place to sit. He seemed to enjoy it a lot if the multiple binkies are any indication.

Looking into meat rabbits. Dude on Craigslist has some New Zealands for sale. While these are going to be a source of meat for me and my household (raw feeding dogs) I am very interested in giving them the best quality of life possible. Do domesticated breeds need human affection? Are they notorious escape artist? I am in the process of building a 50ft by 25ft hutch in the back of my property. I plan on having a lot of them breeding so I figured bigger the better. I have a few acres I'm not utilizing yet and I already dedicated a quarter acre to my chickens and ducks.
>>
>>2380983

If you've already started feeding your dogs, take them to the vet to get checked, and checked again in six months.

Rabbits carry a worm in their muscles which can pass on to whatever eats it. Hence, the old adage only in months with R. However, the worms can be present any month year round.

Like heart worms, these worms can lay dormit for months and that's why you need to get your rabbit checked twice a year.

tl:dr if you feed your dog uncooked rabbits, it may contracts worms which can kill it within a year.

Does anyone know how to determine the age of a rabbit. A domestic bunny showed up in my yard the other day, I asked around the neighborhood and no one knew of one missing so I took it in. I've been doing my best feeding it (orchard grass, pellets, veggies) but I'm worried I'm doing something wrong by not knowing how old it is. It's small and weighs like 3.5 pounds but doesn't look like the baby bunnies I found online.

I read that buns with shorter play times are more active because they don't get to explore everything in one go, whereas buns who spend all day free-roaming end up bored and lazy. Try cutting her roam time short and changing things up around the house every day. Maybe hide treats for her to find.

What do you guys do to keep your bun from tossing their water bowl? He just won't stop. Every time I put water in it he'll drink a bit then throw it. Pic related, little asshole.

I honestly think our grill >>2385400 could be close to that. I don't know what the fuck is her problem and she's usually really cute but when something goes not the way she wants she can be a real asshole. She's also alpha as fuck when it comes to other buns. So many poor fellas were humiliated when we tried finding a friend for her. And she still grunts at our second bun and gives her a good run around the room from time to time. I won't be surprised if she kicks some doggo's guts out its asshole if we let her outside.
>>
>>2386504
He hates the bottle, I would otherwise. It's more natural for them to drink out of bowls, he's very stubborn when it comes to the bottle - only drinking from it in the car.

You know you should never keep a bun alone.
>>
>>2386512
I used to have a lionhead when I was younger and he wasn't as expressive but he certainly had his own character and was pretty smart.

I remember that my mum once forgot to close the top door of the cage properly and he tried to jump against it to get it to open again. In the end he could open the front door as well by applying pressure to a weak part. He also growled whenever you tried to get him back in his cage whenever it was sunny out, pretty funny to carry a grumpy lazy rabbit back inside the house.

My bun is your average /r9k/ poster. We have yet to find a grill he doesn't sperg about. We also did rescue him from a lady where he was stuck in a tiny cage with half of his unsterilised family so I'm guessing that for now he's happy to be free of that rapefest.
>>
>>2386716
Get a male pair, maybe. They are far more easily bonded, I think. In fact many people say that male+male is the easiest combination that has like 99% chance of working out. Usually fembuns are extremely bitchy, for some reason.

Also, if some anons have questions about bonding, I'll happily give an advice or two as someone who went through hell bonding two fembuns.
>>
>>2386717
That might be it. The reason the lady dumped him was because he and his bro were raping and fighting each other the entire time, so we were cautious with male bunbuds, but I'd guess without the balls he might like a male friend.

I'll see if the shelter has some new buns once I got some time off from uni. Not sure if they're gonna let him in with the guys but it's worth the try.

Btw do your buns also drool over the floor when they're fast asleep?
Turtle bun is a really ugly sleeper and once he's asleep he will drool lakes, but it's not because of medical issues or anything.
My past buns didn't have this, so I'm curious.

How close should I get to a rabbit nest while lawn mowing? Is there some way to diminish how much they hear? Was thinking of putting a bowl over their nest for the minute or so that I mow nearby until I realized that would be stupid - unless it is actually a good idea.

Talking with the family has failed. The grass must be cut.
>>
>>2387680
Why can't you just leave the spot for a while, until the buns are grown up?

I am not entirely sure, but I wouldn't touch it at all. Moreover the grass would help cover it up from possible predators. Why can't your family live with a small tuft of grass on their lawn for a month? It could be a question of survival for poor buns.

Oh, and whatever you do, do not take the bunnies out.
>>
>>2387680

>Oh, and whatever you do, do not take the bunnies out.

If the buns smell like you, moms will likely abandon them.
>>
>>2387683
I never said there were any plans to touch it, nor has there been contact yet. If I don't do the grass, someone else will, and they'll mow around mere inches away.

Now, I can get some help to avert as much damage as possible regarding sound damage, or /an/ can just run their heads into a brick wall. Throw me a bone, bros.

It's not recommended to kepp a bun alone. They're very social and they can have a hard time living alone, although there are rare exceptions when a bun may be slightly autistic and doesn't want to any company. And it's dangerous to divide an already formed couple, heard they get depressed and sick. So get both, especially if you're going to be busy -- they will keep each other company. That being said, you should still dedicate an hour or so each day to play with buns.

Our white bun is also timid. She doesn't always let us pet her amd doesn't really like to hang out with us and the elder bun in the room. She feels really comfy and safe in the tray though, you can always pet her while she's there and she even starts making that teeth noises and can even fall asleep right in the tray. It's been like that for a long time so don't get alarmed if your bun will keep that behavior. You're gonna have be mean drom time to time and pick her up forcefully to trim nails and groom her, though. Be sure to give aome treats in the process/afterwards.

Your buns are cute, Anon. Take a good care of them and ask if you need any advice. Don't forget to post lots of pictures.

This one? I'm only used to autistic buns, but I could try to write some stuff down.

Getting the coat fluffy depends on the bun, if it likes to shower you could get some bunny shampoo to wash its fur but otherwise it will just be a traumatic experience.
Alternatively you could also get a small bunny comb or brush to comb it if it has long enough hair to do so. I think it's even mandatory for buns with specific fur lengths.

I think all buns will count good food as a way to spoil them, so maybe give it a side of its favorite fruit or veggie with dinner or as a snack during the day so it can look forward to that.

Lastly, I guess toys and playtime. Just find out what your bun likes to do and then free up some time to do that every day. Turtle bun loves to run laps around the house or garden with me and likes a good obstacle course every now and then. My past buns just liked to laze around in the sun or on the couch, but even then you can entertain them by sitting next to them and petting them. A lot of buns like it when you lightly pluck on their foreheads, cause it feels like another bun is cleaning them.
>>
What turtlebunposter said. And head rubs. Lots of headrubs.
>>
Do you guys take your bunnies outside? Do they seem to like it? The woman i adopted mine from said in her experience rabbits dont like going out and just get anxious and scared outside and are totally content to stay inside.
>>
>>2394968
That's possible.
I don't know how much of a stress it is to them, but be careful if you decide to try so that story like this >>2386019 won't happen to your bun. I'd suggest you find a really REALLY quiet place if you still want to try take them outside to play.

Would be cool if they got over their fear eventually and could enjoy their time outside. Bunnies love that.

As for the first part of your question, a lot of anons do. I haven't taken my buns outside yet, 'cause I haven't found a suitable place yet and we still have to make some preparations, but I really want to do it one day, probably soon.
>>
>>2394968
I used to take my past bun to the elementary school playground in the evenings. He was on a leash on the way there and once within the fences I let him go. He loved to play in the sandbox and there were barely any screaming kids there during that time of day, so he didn't have to be afraid.
Of course, it depends on the bun. We first let him loose in the garden of a relative to see how he handled it. The garden was fenced but much bigger and completely different fron our own garden, so maybe that's an idea if you want to see how your bun reacts to it.

In general it's not much of an issue. If anything the bun won't feel like its missing out if its content with playing at home.
