This thread needs more cute birbs.
Behold! The face of a cruel killer
Tufted Tit-Tyrant, the shoe-in for the final boss of any tit-oriented fighting game.
Northern Parula <3
Pic related nest under the eave of my front door every year, and the female is currently sitting on eggs.
Another pic...
The females have a whiter chest, while the males are more peach colored.

That's the brood-patch on a nesting female, they have reduced feathers on their breast and belly to better insulate eggs.

Frogmouth. They're like SE Asia and Australia's version of a potoo.
>>2360243
>>2360562
Plus, the skin gets that blistered look because it's filled with fluid to help cushion the eggs. Females start losing feathers on the breast and belly about the time they start nesting. Everything grows back normally at the end of breeding season when they do their yearly molt.
Do you guys make birdwatching threads?
>>2360623
ok that is one badass looking bird.

We had frogmouths in our back garden once, eventually becaming a mating pair. Even had a nest and baby chicks. Very quiet and observant birds, never had a problem with them.
Local noisy minorbirds (invasive species) started expanding their territory and somehow managed to kick out both babies when both parents happened to not be present by freak chance.
Poor things never stood a chance.
Never had any frogmouths after that...

bruh

You have fantastic bird-identifying skills, much respect. Is there any type of bird you can't identify, or do you know them all? Can you also do this with snakes/lizards/badgers etc?
>>2361555
Marry me.

OP here, this thread is old so I'll just kill it with cuteness. NUKED.

Sometimes. There are a few anons on here that seem to be serious birders, but most of them seem secretive, at best. There's few enough young birders out there that it would probably be too easy to dox them if they ever posted details about where they went and what they saw.
>>2361738
Yeah. It's fluffed up with its eyes half-closed and it's leaning to one side. Pretty serious signs of physical stress, desu. And it looks like a young one in the fall. A lot of young birds don't survive that first migration.

Birdfag, you should check out the jobs board on Ornithology Exchange. Could be helpful for you.

Not just young birders. Details about a rarity a person found or saw could also give it away, ex.

Cutest common bird
>>2362466
Aw. It wants a belly rub!
>>2363343
Pretty much. I also take a small identification book if I see an unusual species and a mp3 player with some recorded bird songs so I can learn to associate the song with the visual image of the bird.

wth? Is spring time some sort of bird revolt? The cardinals and geese alone are enough to give me nervous breakdown
And humping. Ive moved into a feathered Caligula. Its bird debauchery and carnal lust everywhere I look.
What bible verse must I read to drive these devils back to hell, or at least shame them into some moral decency. There are starlings defiling the magnolia tree as I speak, the libertine perverts.

One of these just landed in my garden but the dog chased it away before I could get a picture.
I think they come from the nearby golf course.
