cute sneks
>>
>>2353121

I have a young danger noodle of the corn variety. Based pet.
>>
>>2353661
what's the use of having those as pet?
can they even show any affection?
>>
>>2353663

Some pets are simply worth observing, for their beauty, and fascinating behaviors.

They do not show affection, but can be handled.

Trust me, I'd love to have a dog or cat, but circumstances don't allow it right now. In the meantime, I've learned a great deal, and gotten a lot of enjoyment out of caring for and watching my fish, reptiles, and inverts.

> Release lil tube guy in bushes
>1 week later cleaning out birdbaths and watering plants

I still feel bad about it since I destroyed his hiding place... Also it was the day after I forgot to feed the birds. I guess some grackle decided to leave me a message.

Snakes are so awesome! I have a pet Burmese python. I'm a vegan so I can't feed it mice but with a bit of coercion I can feed it fried rice with tofu, deep-fried iceberg lettuce, and bits of flesh I sometimes cut off from my body. He hasn't moved in a while and kinda smells but a cool thing is that you can even see his little bones. There's these little white worms and flies that I assume eat his shed skin? Pretty cool little pet and proves it is possible to feed a snake on a vegan diet.

>>
>>2354874
The only issue you might have with those is humidity. Which is pretty simple once you fool with it a bit. Most of it is reducing airflow+substrate that holds humidity atleast as far as snakes go.

Rainbow boa overall would be a bit easier since they dont grow as large which makes it harder to control heat/humidity when your enclosure needs to house a 7'+ snake

>>
>>2357795
>>2357695

It's a sand boa. Most people seem to think play sand is fine for them as long as you remove them to feed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz2opOBqClo
>>
>>2357965
Sand boas are adapted to live on loose sand and can be housed with it as substrate safely. Sand boa breeders typically recommend aspen shavings instead as it is much easier maintenance and easier to keep free of bacteria. Changing out a tank full of sand is a pain in the ass whereas cleaning out aspen is much faster. Aspen also holds burrows, which the sand sneks seem to appreciate.

I didn't like snakes either until I volunteered at a reptile rescue once. Overwhelmingly majority of sneks are adorable, even when they're mad. I have to think most people have a bias against snakes mostly because of lack of interaction with them in person. They're often nothing like the scary meanies they are portrayed as in tv and movies.

Which isn't to say that some aren't total dicks, and of course venomous can make behaviors that are cute in non-venomous pretty scary in a snek that can kill you dead in 24 hours or less.
>>
>>2353815
Agreed. It's usually whores who have a void to fill so they get a kitty to treat their insecurities, it's pathetic. Low t beta nu-males do the same, just acting like lonely whores, sad because no one loves them.
I get pets out of respect for the animals and appreciation of it's beauty.
That poster is either a massive faggot nu-male or a lonely whore, probably a fat ugly cat lady.

Snakes are just another animal that gets stigmatized because of social biases stemming from biblical times. People think they're gross, or scary, or hate them despite the immense amount of good they are not just for the ecosystem, but humans as they control pests that feed on crops and spread disease.

I've kept reptiles for about a decade but I've always been talked out of getting a snake by parents/significant others. They really make outstanding pets, being silent and about as clean as a pet can be. Common species have very simple care requirements- IMO easier than fish or lizards.

Personally I find them interesting for their behavior. Sometimes I rake the sand in my Sand Boas enclosure before going to bed- there will be all sorts of little trails where she's burrowed the next morning.

They are stigmatized because of the bible.

In many non-Judeo-Christian religions, snakes aren't symbolic of something to be feared and often have more neutral symbolism. There aren't cobra roundups in India like there are rattlesnake roundups in the US, despite multiple orders of magnitude more deaths to snakebites there. Both Hinduism and Buddhism treat snakes more ambiguously as symbolic of rebirth or fertility.

Trying to rationalize a fear of snakes because we have some snake-specific DNA-hardwired response doesn't even hold up to basic scrutiny- the far more simple answer is that we're just conditioned to hate snakes from a young age, just like we're conditioned to hate bats, spiders etc.
>>
>>2366044
Sure. Strong feeding response so always use tongs for feeding and use good consistent handling procedure so snek does not confuse food time with tank maintenance/handling time. Confuse king snek about that and you have a snek that will attempt to swallow your finger at some point.

Like all colubrids they are bitey as babies but chill out as adults.

guys help
my tube had a VERY bad day
I took my bp outside because it was a nice day and I thought he might have fun
it was very windy
he was always a scardy cat, so it took him like 5 minutes to finally get off my lap and onto the grass
havin an ok time, liftin his lil head off the ground to taste the wind
then BOOM
a leaf hits him in the face
he was terrified
he curled up into a ball and hissed for about two minutes
felt bad and took him back inside
how do I cheer this poor baby boy up
pic related is the most recent one I have of him

My Brother in Law greatly fears the noodle beasts. We were bar-b-queing last weekend and he sees this handsome fellow. He screamed like small female child. I captured him to show to my nieces and nephews. They gave him kind pets and we took him to the nearby woods so he would no longer scare my cowardly brother in law. It was funny that his 5 year old daughter was not scared of the noodle beast but he was.

Potentially yes although the likelihood of that is far lower for snakes than it is for geckos and other lizards.

Chances of catching a soaking wet rodent that just so happens to be running across a sandy beach in the wild is rare. Although like I said, it's a minimal concern with snakes and quite rare. I've heard of snakes choking from a chunk of wood stuck in their throat more often than I have seen legitimate case of serious intestinal blockage.

I have a question. Why are many venomous snakes so aggressive all the time? Surely 99.9% of the animal kingdom already knows not to fuck with them. Why do they have to be such cunts and strike at anything that comes near them?

I know not all venomous snakes do this, but a lot do.

I just pick them up and move them onto the grass if they're stuck on the sidewalk or road.
I did this two days ago, put a garter back in the grass, and walked down the staircase to town today and found a lady had chopped the same snake up with an electric weedeater.
Pretty fucked up. It was just a garter snake. I guarantee you it suffered immensely having a low power weedeater hitting it in the middle of its body until it died.

Oh god my stepmom is like that, well and my dad too. They hate snakes and go out of their way to kill any they see, even though all that's ever been around their yard that I know of are garter snakes or rat snakes.

Sorta, you have to feed proper prey items to any animal. Boas have a slower metabolism and can't expand as much as pythons. Large adults only need to eat once to twice a month. You have to start slow and be consistent, boas should be grown at a slow and controllable rate to keep them as healthy and long living as possible.

Pythons(except retics/burms/angolans/african rock)Take 3-4 ish years to reach full size.

Boas don't reach full size till about 7 years of age. They're sexually mature around 4 years of age however. Sometimes 3 if you pound food into them however then they generally produce slugs and can cause issue further down the line.

Here's a picture I took of him yesterday.

>They're often nothing like the scary meanies they are portrayed as in tv and movies.

that's because of these assholes that only show clips of snakes moving around quickly, hissing, and striking. Snakes spend 97% of the day sitting on their asses and you can't even tell if they're alive or not. Especially if you get a really lazy snake like an Emerald Tree Boa who only eats once every 3 weeks.

Snakes are so fucking chill. People have no idea.

Should I keep feeding my ball python every week 7 days. It's a male and has been eating rat fuzzies. It was born in the middle of august so it isn't even a year old. I don't know when it's suppose to be an adult and when to expand its feeding periods.
>>
>>2375862
First of all, you should educate yourself before buying an animal.

Secondly, a neonate ball python should be eating around 10% of it's bodyweight weekly, whether that's a rat fuzzie or whatever. A Ball python should be thick but not bulging or creasing.

Once the ball python is about two you can probably spread it out to biweekly or every 10-11 days and the largest prey item being a rat pup/small rat for larger females.
>>

Adult balls especially large females can take medium rats like a champ and can eat bigger but imo medium is good to stick to
jumbo rats are too fat though so I would stop at large if you have an absolutely massive snake

10-14 days for ball pythons. 14 days is better once they're full grown.
>>
>>2366169
They aren't cats, nor are they related to cats.
>>
>>2375939
Why? That's a perfect prey size. Some breeders feed mediums when they're in breeding/ovulation.

Small rats bi-weekly for an adult is a perfect prey item for longevity.
>>2376326
Bi-weekly
>bi=two
>weekly=week
>two-week
once every two weeks
>>2376073
Adult balls shouldn't be pounding mediums unless in breeding.

Obesity is a huge health issue for snakes, shit my 6ft+ boa is on mediums bi-weekly and unless you have a monster female they're not going to reach that size or girth.
