Standard poodles are great. Toys/miniatures are terrible though. They look terrible and they have a height complex.

Standards are the best dog: no constant coat shedding, smartest dog with a moderate activity level, and you can make they look any way you want. Anyone who hates poodles just doesn't know about them.

Boxers have other breed health issues like their higher than average incidences of cancer, but their skull shape doesn't inherently fuck them over in the same way as bulldogs or pugs. Boxers are actually pretty athletic, energetic dogs and can make great running partners - there's some payoff for having a shorter skull, but as a breed they are not comparable to how fucked pugs or Pekingese are by their completely flattened faces.

I have a Poodle/Lab mix, she's the smartest dog I've owned. Not Hypoallergenic necessarily but she doesn't set off my asthma at all like my other dogs did. First generation and she definitely sheds a little bit but not quite like my old lab did, you could stuff cushions with the amount of fur he shed. Her fur isn't as curly and has more of a Labrador consistency than poodle, but you can see the poodle in how damn tall she is and in her face.

It's nice that she doesn't make it hard to breathe, means she can lie on my bed with me sometimes.

The coat isn't really that much of an issue to take care for unless you're aiming for pristine, contest-like condition.

Mine was very quickly to housebreak however, and is very cleanly; she even refuses to pee in the yard, really needs to be taken outside of her territory to heed nature's call. I don't know. It was on the breed list, I think because they are supposed to be very agile, not stressed easily, and can memorize a long list of commands. I was told that they used to be common in circuses. From what I understand they are less aggressive and hyper than Jack Russells.

But I was also surprised to see a terrier on the list.

Rescued our pug and fell in love with the breed. They have some of the best personalities. Neutered him right away though--as much as I love him I don't wanna support fucked up breeds (physically).

Although he is very fit, not obese like a lot pugs I see walking around...

A friend recently adopted a jack/poodle puppy.
Probably THE coolest dog I ever met next to my old pharaoh hound.
The pup is very active, can figure anything out (makes it hard to contain him sometimes when he's at the shop, he gets out to meet the customers), and rarely ever barks. An amazing little mix.

I hand-raised a litter of 4, the dam died in labor (being very old) but the vet saved the litter. It was like feeding baby mice. EVERY. TWO. HOURS. For 6 weeks. I was so happy when they started taking solid food, I could catch up on my sleep. Hell, our own babies are easier.

My dalmatian I had when I was a kid was probably one of the smartest dogs in the world, I know some websites say that dalmatians are dumb, but it all depends on the breeder. Mine could learn a trick in 3 seconds flat, I did a twirl as a kid in front of it, told him to do it, instantly learned, too bad he was given to a trucker after the car accident and separation of my parents.

I work at a dog daycare in a pretty posh neighbourhood so I get to experience a lot of doodles. What struck me about them is that most of them are pretty nervous dogs, tendency to bark, easily impressionable and not level-mooded and as such they seem not very suitable to the part of service dog that they are praised for by so many.

The thing about doodles is that, for as much as they're touted as service dogs, the vast majority of them are produced by backyard breeders for pet purposes. As in nearly all of them because most breeders started doing that right from the start. They generally don't have the training or temperament for service because that was never part of the plan, and their breeders wouldn't have known how to do that even if it was.

Generally the 'but they're service dogs!' comes from people who want a more prestigious dog, the same sorts who get really mad if you call their precious doodle a mutt.

I have to say however that most if not all doodles at my workplace come from "reputable" doodle breeders, as far as you can call someone who breeds doodles that.
