Why do these people hate dogs, /an/? Is a fundamental piece of their soul missing? Is it a gene that they don't carry? Perhaps a racial basis? Why do you like dogs and what do you think of dog-haters?

Dog haters, same questions to you. Are dog-lovers just insane? Why do you dislike dogs and what do you think of dog lovers?

This is about dogs and our opinions of them, not about cats vs dogs or any other pet war

Let's see where /an/ stands!

Perhaps it could be interesting to give background info

I'm 18 and from the USA, I love dogs and every dog-hater I've met has been a fucked up person. I think dogs are one of the best animals and do think they are le humanity's pet.

I have one dog, but live with three others that aren't mine.

Dog haters are inhuman. Dogs are mans best friend
>>
Dogs are overrated
>>
This is anecdotal but I've noticed a correlations between being shitty people and hating dogs.
>>
Dogs are disgusting dangerous annoying and destructive. Fuck off.
>>
dog lovers are gross

unless your dog serves a functional purpose i'm going to be mildly disgusted by its presence because dogs are nasty creatures. they're only respectable if they're working animals
>>
i hate those tiny dogs that you can break them if you accidentally step on them.

I also hate when dogs bark in the night fucking up my sleep.

The rest of doggos are cool
>>
>>2352824
I don't hate dogs, but I just don't like them. They're too clingy and needy.
>>
Nothing against dog owners in the slightest, but I just fucking hate dogs. I can never get over how unpredictable their behaviour is. Although I guess I can only blame my general phobia of them.
>>
>>2352957
Some people just intrinsically dislike dogs but if your phobia stems from feeling they're unpredictable - dogs are actually incredibly predictable and vocal. They communicate their feelings all the time. You should probably meet with a dog trainer and ask if they can explain dog body language to you, with a small dog you don't need to be afraid of.

You can learn dogs very easily, so I hope that you do and your fear can be put aside.
>>
>>2352906
I've got a rule for when a dog stops being a dog

If it's small or weak enough that you have to worry about hawks while you walk it, it isn't a dog.
Eagles exempt, they can carry off fucking deer.
>>
>>2352898
>>2352902

>dogs are gross

Is it just dogs you find gross or are you in general people who care about cleanliness more than others?
>>
>>2352830
>tfw /an/ is non-white smarties that like dogs
>>
>>2352961
Moved to Washington from California and started working at a humane society.

Second day this woman comes in bawling cause she let her 20ish pound dog out in the morning and an eagle came down picked it up shredded it and dropped it. I hadn't even contiplated that could happen.
>>
People hate dogs because of sperglords like you who assume anyone who doesn't worship your muh doggu meme is genetically defective.

Why the fuck wouldn't you hate a people who treat themselves like the /pol/tards of animal ownership?

What really makes me wonder is why some people hate small dogs so much. Everyone has their tastes, but there's always a few people out there who feel the need to call out "shitty little rat :DDD" around one. Are they insecure with their masculinity?
>>
>>2353331

Nah, it's because most idiots that own small dogs don't bother to teach them any manners, so they tend to be far more obnoxious and rude than larger dogs.
>>
Lost my baby girl tonight. 10 years old and the love of my wife's and I life. It doesn't hit you until she's not yapping and dancing to see you. Truly hurts your soul and as a grown man I'm sitting here crying my eyes out over our little puppy.
>>
>>2353422
Fuckin' sux, dude.

Condolences.
>>
>>2352824
Not quite a dog hater, but I've been put off dogs mainly because of owners who ascend into untold levels of butthurt if you don't immediately fall to your knees and accept their surrogate child as the second coming of Christ himself. Especially when their furbaby is a poorly trained, aggressive nervous wreck that can't be walked without taking a fuckton of detours and special routes just to avoid other animals and people because everyone and everything will trigger it.
A well-trained pet dog and working dogs are top tier, though.
>>
>>2352824
Hate is a strong word, but I dislike dogs for a few reasons

1.) They usually smell

2.) Often they are intrusive and rude, constantly trying to lick you and/or your clothing

3.) Aesthetically I just don't find them very enjoyable to pet. When you pet a cat it will move its body against your hand, and cats tend to have softer fur. A dog however has a more rigid body and the fur is usually not as soft. Plus your hand will stink after touching a dog.

4.) The constant sniffing dogs do sometimes annoys me if it is loud

5.) Dogs tend to be loud in general, their claws click and clack all over the floor and they might bark a lot

6.) They're aggressive, not necessarily always hostile, but aggressive and overly friendly even

They just irritate me. Not to say I've never had any good relationships with dogs or even loved a few as pets, but they are never and will never be first choice of animal companion. I just don't enjoy their company much.
>>
>>2352824
>>2352830
You should also do a poll with introversion/extroversion and dog like/dislike.
>>
I like dogs in theory but god they are gross animals. Everyone told me you get used to the smell but I've had my dog for two years now and it still makes me sick. Maybe it's worse because I live where it's always humid so she always smells like wet dog. I love my dog but I have no intentions of ever getting another one
>>
>>2352824
I do hate dogs, but I have two pretty good reasons to do so.

>got mauled by a dog as a toddler

>got mauled again by a dog that broke its chain next door and proceeded to bite the shit out of me while I was playing outside at ten

And some less important reasons.

>dogs smell like dogs no matter how often you bathe them and I find the scent of dogs unpleasant

>I don't like the sensation of petting a dog, they're too tense and hard

>dogs are often loud, and I was raised with loud dogs - I need quiet

>dogs feel threatening compared to say, cats, even at rest (if they're a larger species) because of the potential they have to fuck you up and dogs can snap in an instant

>I like lots of space and alone time and dogs need a lot of attention

>raised in a rural area, almost got attacked by farm dogs that weren't fenced while jogging a few times, but managed to avoid macing the doggos
I'm well aware my opinion is a bit colored by the maulings. I do like cats, but I don't like them because I hate dogs. I like them because they smell good, it feels good to pet them, and they're fun to play with for an hour or so a day and then they sleep and leave you alone. Plus nothing is better than hugging a purring cat.

I'm a bit sad that I don't enjoy dogs, but it's not just because of the maulings. I just don't like them in general. They're not what I want or need in my life.
>>
>>2352898
>>2352902
Are you Muslim?
>>
I don't hate dogs but I avoid them for a few reasons.

>they stink
>they lick/drool
>they are loud compared to other mammal pets
>need a lot of attention
>very easy to fuck up while raising puppies resulting in an aggressive unbalanced animal

And the average dog owner is retarded. judging by the amount of dogs that throw themselves at the fence snarling when you walk by, most are unsocialised dangerous animals.
>>
>>2353480
Nah, they're probably zipperheads, they'd rather eat 'em than bother owning them.
>>
>>2353331
I don't feel a need to call it out but I just dislike small dogs. I also dislike english bulldogs - to me it seems a bastardization the dog, an insult to what a dog should be.

I'm sorry for your loss. She got to spend 10 years of life deeply loved and cared for, that's the best any of us can ask for. We can always want more time but in the end any time is good so long as it's like the time she got to spend with you and your wife. I hope you can feel okay again soon.

>smell

I honestly can't smell the smell, and even after a long time away from dogs upon being near one I don't smell it. Is there a gene for this the way there's a gene for tasting certain foods as very bad or very good?

Don't hate dogs but hate all pitbulls and German shepherds despite people saying they are good dogs. My brother got one and he is making my life hell. I try to be nice to him even give him treats but he will randomly get aggressive and start attacking me. What annoys me more is they my brother would tell me that I am scared but I was never scared in the first place. I would be minding my own businesses until that fucker would show and bite me randomly.

I love dogs fhety are so impotgant to me ibcoykd eat 50 if i wqs told to
>>
>>2352824

I like dogs, but dislike dog lovers. Dogs are shitty for a number of reasons yet are great for different reasons.

- Dogs shit up entire cities. Owners often don't care to pick up their shit. Some big metropolitan cities are completely littered with dog shit, e.g. Berlin and parts of Paris.

- Dogs smell really, really bad. Even properly groomed ones. Dog owners cannot smell it, same issue as with for example cigarettes. Especially bad in cars or small apartments.

- Dogs literally eat their own shit. They also lick your hands/legs/feet with that tongue.

- Dogs that are neglected are a legitimate threat, especially GSD or Pitbulls or anything similiar. The same is not true for almost any pet.

There's more reasons, but that's plenty already. I'd like to have a dog personally, however people like OP with their stupid crusade really piss me off.

So yeah, OP, you suck mad dick. Fuck off.
>>
>>2353151

This. Some people on this board are a special breed of retarded.
>>
>>2353539

Some people just have shitty noses my dude. My girlfriend can detect all the ingredients in any dish by smelling, I don't even come close by tasting. It's a blessing having a bad nose tho, trust me.

I like dogs. But dog people are insufferable. Mainly the ones who treat them as children. It's cool if you love your dog but it will never be family. I would slit my 10 year old dogs throat for my first born if he so much as growled.

>>
>>2353717
My dog is smarter than an actual family member of mine and loves me more. I also would never allow him to become a threat to another family member of mine, especially a kid - but that's true for all your family. You wouldn't let one family member threaten another.
>>
>>2353571
Every GSD I've met has been neurotic and slightly 'off'
>>
I like other people's dogs. I intend to keep one in the future if I can find the right breed or individual, but they're normally too subservient and toddler-like for me. Same issue with birds. I love parrots, but the reality of ownership seems like dealing with a pseudo-toddler for 10-20 years. Think I'd rather have my own kid instead and just keep animals that can tolerate less attention like cats, reptiles, rabbits, fish.

It would be nice to have a hiking or driving buddy though.
>>
>>2353705
>statistics show
Got a source for that one bud?
I'd really like to see a study showing that everyone who owns a dog is in danger of being mauled.
>>

Dogs don't have thumbs. How will they put a postage stamp on the envelope?
>>

Grab th back of its neck and pin him to the floor and smack the ever loving shit out of its ass till your hand can't take anymore pain. I did this with my dads dog and ever since he's been nice to everyone.
>>
>All these people complaining about smell

I'm worried I might not be able to notice dog odor because I own one but I recognize that dogs may have an unpleasant odor because I've experienced it with doga that stay outside.
>>
>>2353753
>Grab th back of its neck and pin him to the floor and smack the ever loving shit out of its ass till your hand can't take anymore pain.

Seems a bit extreme man. Slapping the muzzle with the back of your hand and a good shouting is enough.

As a dog lover, dogs are very...Open. There's not really any deception to them in most cases. Treat them right, train them and they'll treat you right.

As for dog haters, I don't really understand them. Maybe they had bad past experiences or never grew up with one so they're more detached from the concept. But I value the loyalty of a well-bred, well-rounded dog.

But I'll freely admit to being a breedist. Can't stand any breeds with smashed faces (Bulldogs, pugs, boxers) or shit temperaments.

Very content with my 3 year old GSD
>>
>>2353755
The dog was extremely agressive and wouldn't respond to anything. I lost it when it snapped at me when I was just in my own bed. I felt bad but if I had my gun near me it would have been dead and would have tossed the corpse on my dads bed and possibly shot my dad if he got angry.
>>
>>2353641
It's dog owners in general. They care for nothing on earth but muh doggu and making everyone else worship muh doggu and will look at you like a diseased individual if you so much as disagree.

Only manchildren act like this without a pet, so I suspect most dog owners have severe autism and the dog serves as therapy.
>>
>>2353793
Yes I agree some people think their dogs are exempt when most of the time they usually have the worst type of dogs. I remember this one guy got mad at some kid who was bit by his dog saying it was his fault when he was no where near him and just jumped up on him. I don't mind dogs but not all of them are gonna be nice to you.
>>
>>2353910
I live in a super dog friendly city and take my dog with me to a lot of places, but we stay clear of things like restaurants and shops because it just seems unfair to subject people who dislike or are allergic to dogs to my dog. Do I think she's the greatest god damn thing on this earth after my spouse? Hell yeah, I do. But nobody else does, and I try to be mindful of that.
>>
>>2353793
You hang around some weird people then. There are obnoxious dog owners that think their vicious mutts can do no wrong but they are pretty uncommon. From what I've seen the average dog owner is more neglectful/ignorant which has its own problems
>>
I like dogs and wish there were more dogs in my life.

Though I hate pitbulls. When I see one pulling its owner along by a leash, I think it screams "I am an untrained dog who will jump up onto you and scratch you. I pull on the leash and I don't know how to heel. My owner doesn't know shit about how to take care of me. I bark excessively"

In short I stay away from pitbulls because the vast majority of them are so difficult to deal with due to being untrained
>>
>>2352961
>eagles can carry a fucking deer
a fucking deer??
like a full grown buck deer or a doe deer?
>>
>>2353331
they are all gross and they show what monsters humans can be, where they breed a dog for looks, at the expense of making an animla that cannot survive on its own. The people that own these dogs show that they don't give a shit about dogs, if they did they would not support the production of these dogs. they just want an accessory.
>>
I left my dog over with my parents when I moved into a new apartment that didn't take large breeds. Little did I know my parents were shit pigs and my dog was neglected.

I've now taken my dog back but into an environment with 2 cats. Both of the cats are heinously aggressive towards him and now towards me.

I went to soothe one of the little fucks and he hissed at me and shredded the palm of my hand. They're now isolated from each other but one of the cats is still being an aggro fuckwad.

That said, dogs are better than cats and I hate these fucking feline cocksuckers.

I like dogs, but I also have a mild phobia of dogs. Yeah, I know it is a weird contradiction.

I love watching animals - they are interesting and funny and their behaviors are fascinating. Dogs are fuzzy and goofy and cute, on top of that. But somehow when I get close up to a dog, my heart beats fast and I break out in a cold sweat. I'll cross the street.

I'm not even sure why. Maybe it is because I had some bad experiences as a kid? I was mauled by a neighbor's dogs (big German Shepherd mixes) when I was young. It only left some minor scars on my leg and arm, and that doesn't seem like enough to cause a phobia. I still liked small dogs, and even begged my parents for one. We had one for about a month, a friendly dachshund mix, but it was killed by our asshole neighbor. He claimed it got out and bit him, but that seems unlikely. He was always antagonizing it through the fence, trying to get the dog to growl and react, and I think one day he let it out and just kicked it to death. he was kinda messed up like that, used to brag about torturing cats all the time. After that I didn't want to keep dogs anymore. I was afraid of big ones and scared I couldn't protect the small ones.

Wow. That got dark fast. Anyway. After my first and only dog, I never got another one. Then I lived in a series of shitty apartments.

Now I have a good job, a nice house and yard. My doctor has recommended that I get a service dog. They still scare me, though. I've made an appointment to volunteer at a local animal rescue. I hope maybe they can give me some experience and help me get more comfortable around canines.
>>
>>2353754

I have a very sensitive nose. I can instantly tell, when I enter somebody's house, whether they own cats, or rabbits, or rodents, or birds.

But I can't always detect dogs. A clean house with clean dogs smells pretty neutral.

Cats though...jesus, it doesn't matter how clean the house it. It always reeks of cat piss.
>>
>>2353539
Probably.

Some people say cats smell but I've never been able to smell anything on a healthy cat with a clean litterbox.

Some people say that brussel sprouts and broccli have strong, unpleasant smells. I barely smell them at all and what I do smell is green and good.

Some people love sour cream or ranch dressing or sour dough bread... yet the smell and/or taste of those things literally makes me want to throw up.
