it's just the shape of their mouth that gives the appearance of them smiling.
Stop anthropomorphizing animals.
Animals don't care about you, only the food you provide them.

Don't take my word for it, Google has plenty more examples
all mammals smile
Are you trying to insinuate that some people are really dumb?

The other anon's right, dalmatians do have a tendency to show their front teeth when they get excited.

Some of them are also known to pull this face as an appeasing gesture, after they've done something bad and their owner is angry about it.

It's a retarded fucking leap from dogs don't smile to dogs don't care about you. The latter is objectively untrue, you unfeeling autistic subhuman
>>2353201
>implying autists don't sense emotions from animals better than neurotypicals do
typical retarded 4chan huurrr muh meem overrides reality cuz praise kek

Dogs do smile. My dog has a specific look on his face whenever he's very happy, and he will 'smile' a certain wait. Dogs also open their mouths like that to pant or because they're anxious but this is very obviously an entirely different face with different body language.
It's not a huge leap of logic to say that dogs might have a way to outwardly express happiness, and since they are so attuned to human body language and emotion might also open their mouths to show happiness because they grow up with a bunch of happy smiling faces around them.

This, I am autistic. Animals > people 90% of the time, much more straightforward and easy to understand.
Whenever an animal shows its teeth it's either a threat or an autonomous response to fear. Dalmatians "smiling" doesn't mean dogs smile. Only humans have made showing the teeth a "friendly" gesture.
>>2354481
Human smiling evolved from showing teeth as a fear response
>Hey look at me, I'm afraid of you, I mean no danger to you
This turned into two people smiling at each other to show they were both not threats to one another and eventually became a gesture for friendliness and voluntarily showing weakness as a thing of closeness
Laughter evolved along the same vein. Shaking hands, also stemmed from fear of the other having weapons or being ready to attack.
Most things have a root in our fear of something else, this does not mean they show fear or aggression anymore.

>Whenever an animal shows its teeth it's either a threat or an autonomous response to fear.
I guess you missed the first few posts about dogs showing teeth that were neither signs of fear or aggression.
>>2354487
Guess you didn't read and misinterpreted the Dalmatian breed's "smiling" as not being misplaced nerves. Lots of dogs do stupid shit when fearful or unsure, like wagging their tails.
>>2354489
Ive owned Dalmatians for over twenty years. To say the only reason they do this is due to being fearful and unsure is not only wrong, but ridiculous as well. As mentioned before it is a well known, common trait of the breed. Mine will do it on command, and when I walk in the door. In no way in either of these situations is the dog being fearful or aggressive.
I can't speak for other breeds as I found not have the experience with them or knowledge, you may very well be right.
To say it's true with all dogs is just false, and this has already been proven to you ITT, you just choose not to accept it.
dogfags anthropomorphize enough to believe their shitty animals are displaying human behaviors, lol
>>2354515
As far as Dalmatians are concerned it's a reaction they do when they are happy or as the other anon suggested, appeasement. It is what it is, but if you wish to believe it's just me projecting my human emotions on an animal because I'm a "dogfag" I guess that's fine too.
Believe what you want. Just don't expect everyone to agree with you when you speak your opinions, especially when your prejudices are so obvious.

This
>>2352266
Just because dogs don't smile when they're happy doesn't mean that dogs can't be happy. Anyone who has had a relatively intelligent, social pet (like a dog or a cat) knows that their appreciation goes beyond food, to the realm of appreciation for being loved and cared for.
>>2353201
This. I love to see someone with some actual sense

They can only smile if they find humor in something, and no creature besides humans has the intellect to understand comedy.
