dogs have cleaner mouths than humans so you should kiss it as much as possible to make your mouth cleaner

OP, what you want to be worried about is toxocariasis, caused by toxocara canis/ toxocara cati. Oh, and hydatid disease (caused by echinococcus)- aka human tapeworms that cause life-threatening cysts.

Both of these are passed on from faecal-oral contact, aka as >>2346679 suggests, dogs spend their life licking their backsides. When you kiss your dog, if they're not regularly dewormed you run the risk of getting both.

Your dog will still likely groom himself, which will mean he will be consuming his own faecal remnants. Plus dogs like to sniff everything going on a walk, which means he will be coming into contact with other dogs faecal matter at some point.

Basically, you can take the risk if you like, but at least now you are taking an informed risk.
