Hey guys

Today I went to the animal shelter to find a cat to adopt. There were many to choose from but I honestly could not make up my mind on the spot, so I said I'll give it a day or two to think about it.

I'm currently deciding between two kitties.

One is a white, 8 month old, relatively playful and energetic kitty, who likes to be pet now and then.

The other is a black, 1,5 y/o, more timid but loves to be pet. I put my finger in it's cage and it started rubbing its head on it.

I honestly wish I could take 2 of them, but I don't have enough room in my apartment.

Wat do?

Sorry to say but if you wait a day they'll both be gone. They probably are now. I made the mistake of saying "I'll come and pick him up on Friday" and he was gone the next day when I went to see him. There's not even a very high demand for cats in my area (NE England) so if there's at all a positive attitude in your area towards them, rip,

Having said that, the 1 and a half year old. Older cats are much less likely to find a home, though like I said that's probably not an issue if it's still a small kitten.

Yeah they told me that, but I figured they wont both be gone by then.

The 1.5 yr one

This only because it's out of a the 'kitten-teen' stage. Kittens can drastically change in personality once reaching maturity. This one will have a more solid one. It's timidness will most likely go away once it's out of the shelter.

My mom used to work at a shelter. When kittens were coming in by the truckloads they would immediately go out on the floor and get adopted. There was only so much room, so adult cats that came in immediately got euthanized as soon as they got in the door practically. It was tragic but there were just too many of them and nowhere to keep them, and most people wanted kittens anyway.

i'd look at a cat thats still young but not a kitten, one thats odds of getting adopted arent that great. It will get you in good with the shelter as they know the kittens will get gone fast, but the 1.5-2 year olds are out of luck since they're not as cute. Same for all black cats and cats whos colors arent exactly how someone would want them
I'd very seriously consider the 1.5 year old OP, however if not there, consider asking about cats who have been there a while and why they've been there that long.
I personally go for the cats who have been there a long time because they arent as playful since I myself am a lazy fuck who just enjoys a cat who occasionally plays and lays around with me.

This. I work at a shelter and of our kittens were available since opening, they are all gone by noon. Only older kittens (6 months) MAY be available after noon if they were available since opening. Not even disabled kittens are left. Does not matter how many kittens there are, they will always be gone.

I had a saying that the kittens go first. Meaning that no older cat gets adopted while young kittens are available, even if the older cat would be a better fit for the family. So far that has pretty much held true
