These guys tend to be armed to the teeth, organised criminals who will shoot your shit up if you get in their way. I've seen several documentaries on park rangers in Africa who are forced to walk around in military gear to protect themselves, next to the animals.

There have been articles in recent past about rhino horn thefts, and about how zoos with rhinos had to improve their security (OP's article mentions security cameras and staff living on site, plus at least some zoos have motion detectors too).
