The most asshole breed?
The kindest breed?
>>2329239
>What's the smartest breed of horse?
The American Miniature, though it has a pretty significant range (4ish-10 hands). The Falabella is the most consistently small (7ish hands)
>The most asshole breed?
>The kindest breed?
These two are incredibly individualistic, depending heavily on personality and training. I've known plenty of kind, gentle horses from 'hot' breeds and monsters from breeds known for being mellow.

I think horses come in unique , beautiful colors and markings but having been around horses and hearing plenty of horrific stories about how fatally stupid they can be really soured them for me.
My experience didn't involve anything but minor injury but good lord are most of them completely fucking retarded. I'd trust a cow more than most horses.
I hear donkeys and mules are superior which is fine with me because I like them better but no one seems to have any.
Unrelated to that, here is a giant horse. What's the standard and health like for draft horses and other massive breeds? I know some about regular jackoff horses and poor confirmation but surely at this size would have problems?
>>2329337
Looks like it's covered in mold

Horses have been a martial animal for centuries. They used to launch raids against their enemies, but have now partnered with man in order to take advantage of man's superior weaponry and strategic minds
>>2329362
>tf2
>>2329355
Drafts have historically been relatively healthy. They've been near exclusively a heavily-worked animal which made proper breeding key. They have some reproductive issues, a slightly shorter lifespan, and some problems handling drugs like anesthetic, but honestly they do pretty well. Certainly not the huge amount of issues this board is used to with specialized breeding (such as the giant dog breeds).
At least, that's how it is with the working-style drafts. The trend these days is towards skinny legs. Even more than other horses (looking at you, Thoroughbreds), this is disastrous. You're seeing earlier and earlier break down because many simply don't have the thickness of bone/wideness of hoof to handle their own bulk. It's a real shame that people (namely the show industry) just can't accept that not everything is meant to be delicate.
Do you feel bad when you fart on your horse?

Are draft horses allowed to participate on the Olympics dressage?
>>2329815
the lips
>>2329919
I don't know of any rule that they can't, but physically the weight is just too much to consistently perform the high level moves. Same reason most dressage horses tend to be on the smaller end, less weight is far easier on the joints.
I have seen a cob at Olympic level, though.
>>2329916
An entire breed, no. Horses are overwhelmingly bred to work, so you don't want to do anything too extreme which would hinder the ability to perform often intensely physical tasks. American Miniatures probably have the best chance of getting there, because their reduced weight and overwhelming lack of psychical job allow for a lot of leeway. But they generally are still pretty OK.
If you want to see some fucked up animals, look for the word "halter" before their breed. These are your show horses who are expected to stand and not much else, so they can get pretty awful. The worst offenders are Arabians and Quarter Horses. On my phone so I can't post pics, but look up Kids Classic Style and Magnum Psyche if you want to see just how far off model they can go.
One day I saw a vet inseminating a mare, but before she injected the thing on the mare's vagina, she inserted her hand inside the mare's anus and picked her poop. Why?

>>2329918
The ones that stick out the most were actually from an anon or two here. My memory is terrible and I'm going to butcher the fuck out of them but I'll sum some up.
>Horse that tossed it's rider and broke it's back over a creek because a frog spooked it
>Stallion attempted mounting a mare who then got her leg stuck in a fence and had to be euthanized
>Mare got loose and took off. Was later found trapped and severely injured in some nasty thorn bushes(forgot what species he said it was but they were huge thorns, not tiny little rose ones). Vet had to euthanize her and they pulled her out. The horse could have just walked backwards but she had just kept pushing deeper into the thorns.
From stories I've been told in person aren't exactly horrific. I've been thrown from one horse that was spooked by a snake but aside from some scrapes and bruises I was the only injury.
Ex coworker has a horse at a barn which she works for in return for having it and she was constantly getting thrown for no and every reason. Sometimes spooked, and sometimes apparently he just felt like bucking or slamming himself into something so he got some minor injury here and there. She was constantly black and blue from bruises for months until she got a head injury and some of us managed to convince her to give it a rest. She was 17 at the time and already had a few broken bones from the same horse.
A few stories from other people I was told were mostly horses getting spooked over birds, squirrels, etc or apparently nothing at all and just bad falls. One had a mare fall in hole that opened up after a storm and had to be pulled out by a truck but no serious injury.
>>2330899
Barn owner said he had a horse who broke it's leg from refusing to jump an oak root, instead just walked it's back hoof into it, panicked, threw him off and in the process broke it's leg and ran off. When they found it not long after it was down and tore something in one of its front legs on top of further injuring it's back one.
I never rode much and being around farms was mostly summer work and friends I saw out on the country so I don't have many interesting stories.
>>2329953
so she can feel her cervix through her anus better
>>2330899
Well horses are prey animals, you have to anticipate that an untrained horse is going to spook at some point. All of this is also heavily dependent on the individual horse, and spooking at trivial things doesn't mean they're stupid, it's just what thousands of years of evolution and instinct will do.
A properly trained horse should be as solid as a rock. There's a reason people rode them into battle, and there's a reason why they're used for crowd/riot control today.
I bet in most the stories the "stupid" shit you hear horses doing is actually caused by something the person or rider did.

So guys, I was reading about Arabian horses and I heard a lot of good things about them. Then I told my friend who has a lot of experiences with horses about them. He then surprised me by saying they're overated, inbred, and overall suck. I'm curious, what's the truth about the Arabian horses? Are they just an overrated horse that turned into a meme or is my friend full of shit?
>>2331037
I'd say a little of both. It depends on what sub-breed of arabian you're talking about. They can be very smart and well rounded, but don't get me wrong. There are some udderly fucked up arabians out there. Like, just so beyond fucked. So it really depends, but I'd say they're tad overrated.
Everyone is entitled to their favorite breed though. Iceys are my personal favorite.
>>2331037
>Are they just an overrated horse that turned into a meme or is my friend full of shit?
How much more evidence do you need?
Are you blind?
>>2331047
I just saw an article that was glorifying it. I wasn't intensely researching it or anything. But yeah, after looking at more pictures of it. It looks like its only purpose is to be a show horse, aka useless and severely inbred. I just wanted to hear differing opinions on the horse to add nuance.
>>2331049
They're very tough and versatile little horses, one of the finest all-around breeds. But the show look is creeping into the general population more than it should, and the higher price tag that comes with certain breed names can cause a lot of shit to seep in, so yeah you should be extra cautious when examining one.

making money to buy that farm is not easy
>>2331227
Not impossible either. Hell if you can't aim for a farm to die on these days what can you aim for?
>>2331037
Both. Arabs were prized as war horses for centuries and they still consistently run every other breed into the ground in endurance racing - they are a strong, athletic and incredibly tough breed despite their dainty appearance. There is a shitty, snake-necked, flat-assed show-type that isn't good for much besides throwing hysterics at the end of a rope, but most Arabs are riding horses and they're not that awful, even if most aren't quite majestic legendary warhorses either.
>>2331095
Can someone post the comic, please?
>>2331319
What's their behavior? Are the known to be stubborn? Also I'm talking about both the racing breed and show breed or Arabian horses.
>>2331393
They're considered hot-blooded, meaning they're generally spirited compared to more placid, calm breeds. In the best horses, they're also gentle, willing and loyal so long as they're treated fairly, but there's also a fair number of flighty, spooky, hysterical Arabians out there. Some of the idiots who breed halter horses think it makes their horse look fiery/spirited instead of just badly behaved when it's screaming and throwing a tantrum in the show ring.
>>2331227
Farms are generally cheaper than city houses these days.
A million bucks gets you a shitty house in the city if you're lucky. On average in the country, it'll get you a decent house and a good amount of acreage. Certainly enough for a few horses.
Honestly, the expensive part about horses is when things go wrong. That's where the real money drain is.
Still, a retirement to a green farm is still achievable in this day and age.

Sure is, horses have been known to show amorous feelings towards humans before, but like >>2332579 said, you should not act on it.
>>2332599
Sure they're aware. In many animals it's a sign of dominance. Rarely do animals actually mount humans for 'mating' purposes. Dogs for example will hump a human they feel they are superior too, they aren't actualy trying to engage you sexualy.
The only repeat offender I can really think of is dolphins, who will actually rape people.

gonna be honest, he did that because his older cousin got stuck is a kinda similar sitution and he told him about it.
My friend also told me about his cousin so we both knew the story.
No idea if the cousin had a "genius-retard zoophile" moment to escape this situation but my friend basically did what he thought was necessary for the mare to stop.
Not that it WAS the appropriate thing to do, just that he THOUGHT IT WAS so.
And i have no fucking idea if it indeed was because i'm not even gonna taint my browser with such a research.

>>2332538
>Weird. In Canada it's seen as a pretty neutral activity. People just assume you have money if you're involved with horses more than anything.
I'm a poorfag. I'm only able to have horses because I made the right connections in life. I train a friend's horses in exchange for board for my two.
>>2332734
you've obviously never fisted a mare as mare vagoos don't work like that.
>>2332851
I obviously never did it myself, no.
>>2332750
So I don't understand, you were standing right there and the both of you literally couldn't think of a better way to get the horse to let him free than for him to fist her to orgasm? Did you even try to get her to move? I really doubt she would have stood there unmoving for hours and completely ignored all coaxing and prodding to move just to get this guy to armfuck her.
What annoys me if this is true is that if someone clearly is just looking for an excuse to fuck a horse they should just admit it. Horses are very beautiful creatures and if the mare wants it there's obviously nothing wrong with bringing her to orgasm if both parties enjoy it. These flimsy excuses of "oh i was pinned against the wall and had no choice" literally do nothing to actually convince people you aren't a zoophile, and just unnecessarily keep up the cultural norm that a perfectly natural and enjoyable activity is arbitrarily wrong and immoral. The only thing that was "wrong" about this (probably fake) story is that you and your friend had to keep up this stupid charade of pretending you didn't actually want to fuck the horse. You clearly did, and there's nothing wrong with that.
>>2332902
Probably because we were both retarded (and sometimes very drunk even during the day) and my friend was mainly scared of getting a kick (he got a few in his life).
And he did tend to animals a lot so he might have the idea pop in his head at least once .. so i guess there's a little bit of truth in what you say.
However, as for me, the whole sticking a limb inside an animal thing .. well i actually went over it since i was planning back then to become a veterinary so at some point, i had to think that there's some places my arm would reach that would make some people gag.
I don't exactly have a lust for animals but i simply accept humans (myself included obviously) would probably fuck anything if that anything doesn't fight it, doesn't have teeth in the vagina or dick dissolving enzymes .. and also if you have a huge "oh nobody's here, fuck it, deal with regret later".
But for mares, it would probably like whipping out your cock in a hallway and pretend it creates crowd congestion.

>>2333080
It's not a recent thing too. There's 10,000 year old cave paintings of people railing horses. Must be some deep psychological thing or maybe their shape? The only are beat by sheep because Wales/New Zealand. It's a strange thing anyway. Not the sort of thing you can do surveys one because nobody wants to be outed but there's definitely a calling for it.
>>2333080
Social norms don't accurately reflect biological tendencies. Because it's taboo no one is willing to talk about it, so the only times you hear about it are when someone gets caught. But then you go online and suddenly there's tons of discussion of it on anonymous forums and tons of demand for the porn. The logical assumption is that zoophilia is far more common than our cultural expectations tell us it is.
It was the same for homosexuality in the middle ages. Back then there were "no" homosexuals except for the rare deviant outliers, who they only knew about because they got caught and promptly burned at the stake or whatever. But from a modern perspective we know that obviously there must have been gay people; they just kept it quiet because their societal norms didn't give them any other option. If there was a medieval 4chan you can bet there would have been ton of people like you wondering why there suddenly seem to be hordes of gay people.
Same to an extent with pedophilia; our culture tells us that the only people attracted to children are the rare deviant child rapists we see on the news, yet at the same time seemingly perfect normal people like politicians and doctors get caught with child pornography, and we would be automatically suspicious of any young male being left alone with a little girl. Not saying any of these behaviors are morally equivalent, just that there seems to be a clear dichotomy between social expectations and biological reality.
tl;dr wanting to fuck horses is more normal than you think

What do you think of this horse? It's bull fighting but is their a name for this kind of 'style'? You'll also want to mute it unless you've been in a coma since 2000 and just woke up.
https://youtu.be/IkV-q7Wpkkw
I don't watch bullfighting so I don't know how common it is to train a horse like that or if it's just natural but that horse has some nice moves. Is the horse scared while doing this or is it used to it?
>>2333226
Horses are bored most of the time.
That's why you have to give them lots of stuff to play with or they will get dumb or even start hurting themselves.
Tires are actually not that bad for them to play with, others use horse balls
>>2333298
I like making them extreme and seeing the boredom leave them like a sick egg.
I'm fairly new to the horse racket and I have a question. I've been to a few places and it seems that the same names get assigned to horses way too often to be coincidence. Are there certain chosen names that are set for horses that the inner circle knows about because I've met the same horse in name and stature a few times now and I'm not entirely sure if they all know each other and are messing with me.
What's the deal with horse names? Is it meant to be a few names you can call them or is it just timing?
Horse mare. You don't have to put on the red light. Those days are over. You don't have to sell your body though the night. Horse mare. You don't have to wear that tack tonight. Walk the streets for carrots. You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right.

I'm actually mildly shocked.
>>2333768
>Fine if the animal is compelled to act contrary to the law, legal if the animal is not compelled to act contrary to the law
Aight. English is not my first language. That sentence left me feeling lost. What does that mean?
>>2333778
You have to pay money if you force the animal into what the law specifically forbids, but that's it.
>>2333801
So if you make a dog fill out your tax return wrong knowingly while rimming it then you get a fine?
>>2333775
Well logically if you think zoophilia is animal abuse then there shouldn't be any laws against zoophilia specifically, because it would just be another form of animal abuse, which presumably is already illegal. If you're saying that there should be a law against zoophilia separate from the law against animal abuse then you're saying that it's possible to have sex with an animal without abusing it, which raises the question of why you think it should be illegal in the first place.

>Well logically if you think a dog is a mammal then there shouldn't be any other mammal species specifically, because a cat would just be another kind of dog.
Not all forms of animal abuse are the same nor are they treated the same legally. Shoving your dick up a dog's ass for pleasure is illegal whereas shoving your arm up a cows ass or electrocuting a bull's balls to make money is perfectly legal.
>>2333993
>shoving your arm up a cows ass or electrocuting a bull's balls to make money is perfectly legal
I don't understand, so you're saying if these acts aren't considered animal abuse then they could still be prosecuted as zoophilia? In what jurisdiction do these acts meet the definition of zoophilia? I don't see how this is an argument that zoophilia is a separate crime to animal abuse.
>>2333993
Also I don't know who told you that biological taxonomy is conducted in the same way as criminal law but please disregard everything that person ever told you. I'm not even sure where to start trying to understand what point you were trying to make with that comparison.
>>2334087
No he's pointing out a double standard. How is it that these things aren't considered abuse but zoo is? There's no logic in it. They either both have to be considered abuse or not at all.
>>2334119
I wasn't talking about the morality or rightfulness of it, I was just pointing out that from a legal standpoint it doesn't make sense to criminalize both zoophilia and animal abuse if we assume that zoophilia is abusive to animals. It would be like making it illegal to assault someone as well as a separate law making it illegal to stab someone. Stabbing someone *is* assault, it's the method by which the assault occurred. It doesn't make sense logically to criminalize both, nor can you legally charge someone twice for the same criminal act. It has nothing to do with double standards.
I've heard that some people clone horses. Do the clones live as long as a normal horse or do they die earlier?
>>2334150
making it "double illegal" you've got more charges to press and it's easier to prosecute
Could you guys please take that shit to /mlp/ and rather post some equines up in this bitch?
>>2334191
The problem with that is that it would need to implicitly acknowledge that zoophilia is not necessarily animal abuse. Prosecutors can't double charge for the same criminal act, ie. they can't charge a murder victim with both first and second degree murder for a single murder. There needs to be some distinguishing element of the suspect's behavior. So if you wanted to charge someone with both animal abuse and zoophilia, you would need to argue that the zoophilia itself is not abusive, and it was some other element of the suspect's behavior that was abusive. That wouldn't necessarily be hard to do, since most people who rape animals are also pieces of shit, but it would establish that there's a legal distinction between the two acts. Which provides an avenue for argument that zoophilia shouldn't be illegal at all because it doesn't necessarily involve abuse. See the problem? Obviously it's not one in practice because there aren't any lawyers or legislators willing to stand up and argue that zoophilia should be legal, but it still raises a tricky issue.

They don't though. We've had horse generals up for over a year, and this is the first time I've actually seen prolonged discussion about this topic in them.

Standing can be convenient if you have no place to have a horse on it's back.
If the area is dusty or dirty it reduces the risk of infection when he is standing.
Different types of anesthetic are used also.
When a horse is done on it's back they need more walking afterwards apparently.
I'm getting this info from my GF, who has done several castrations, but English is her second language so I'm not 100% on the details.
It's more easy for the vet to do the job when the horse is on it's back, she says.
She's not a vet, just an aspiring one with an unusually good amount of experience. She's done several castrations herself.
>>2334746

They are very smug animals.

My personal story.. Although not overly horrific but might as well share.
My Mom was a rider, and I started riding young (from roughly 6ish to age 12ish.
Anyways, when I was young, I had a fairly old horse. Think she was 15? Don't remember exactly. Her name was Maggie. My Mom had a young horse about 3 who was severely beaten and treated horribly, but she enjoyed helping and rehabilitating them. This specific horse almost killed her far too many times. Don't remember his name.
Anyways we decided to go for a ride just through the paddocks.. Soon as we get outside, her stupid horse takes the fuck off full speed for no reason at all. This scared the crap out of my horse and she also took off running. Slammed my leg into an electric fence. Double pain. Eventually got her calmed down and back to the barn.. Got off of her and got stuck in the fairly deep mud. Fell forward, still holding her lead, pulled her forward unexpectedly, she stepped/half fell right on my calf. I could not get her off of me for about 20ish minutes until my Mom eventually showed up again.
Bent my shin bone forward slightly. And hurt for months. Funny though.. The mud is what caused this issue, and the mud is also what saved my leg from being completely crushed. Lose-win?
I need help finding a name for a certain horse coloration. Don't have a pic but it was a horse shown in the second episode of Vikings.
It's black with a mostly white tail with some black streaks, and while the horse is almost entirely black it's sort of splotchy with white markings. Like a faded appaloosa pattern here and there and sort of similar to the moldy horse already posted. Imagine this in reverse. Ive found spotted horses but not like the one I saw.
>>2333411
Hahahahaahha. Excellent

This. Trying to find something black in dark, sticky mud is a nightmare.
>>2335313
Yeah? It looked as black as black gets on a horse. Would screenshot if I could. >>2335396
It's butt had the most coloration but the white wasn't solid(like the faded appaloosa kind) but it had a solid white streak on its face. The rest of it not so much so I also think it's some variation of appaloosa but have yet to find another just like it. Maybe its not really a named color and just a random mismatched pattern. It's pattern was also very broken up and seemingly random unlike say, a brindle pattern which has a flow.
This horses face and front legs are also very similar but the rest of it is not.
It's just a cool and possibly unique horse.
>>2335440
I'm going to get a screen cap later actually.
>>2335440
The scene is pretty poorly lit which might be throwing you off, as can the graying gene affecting individuals differently and creating a very wide array of combinations.
Having watched it again, I stand by my assessment of dapple gray.
(Edited because I got lazy and forgot to crop it)
>>2335453
Similarly dark dapple gray because it's just an awesome coat pattern.
>>2335456
Also an example of the graying gene producing unusual facial markings because it's weird and wonderful.
Can we all agree that grey dapples are among the coolest coats ever? Cause god damn they are so fucking cool.

Are you that dork that was trying to compare horse breeds to dog breeds earlier? Dude, give it up. There's way too much variation to be able to assign a personality type to a breed. Except Appaloosa. They're ALL weird in some way/shape/form.
>>2336344
Not that anon, just a novice wanting to know what people are talking about when they talk about types of horses. Is "breed" the wrong word?
>>2336351
For a novice, yes it's kind of pointless to discuss the differences between breeds. Outside of minor differences in build/aesthetics and maybe personality, generally horses bred for certain tasks will look and act very similarly even if they're from very different places (as opposed to say dogs).
Typically, your sport/riding horses will be very lightly built and spirited. Horses meant for pulling, including drafts, are generally pretty mellow and heavier, though they often have flashier gaits. All-purpose horses are somewhere in the middle.
>>2336351
No, "breed" is the correct term. Quarter Horse, Arabian, Morgan, Shire, Lusitano.... all are breeds. Species is horse.
>>2336351

Not sure where you live, but it's rather the opposite around here. Seems like you need at least 200k for anything int the country, unless you luck out, which to be fair, I know some people who did luck out. Houses in the cities here are for the most part way cheaper though, as low as 70k for a decent 2-story.
