On a more practical note: their backs are designed to be flexible, not sturdy, and thereby would not make a good mount.

Also, imagine having to feed that thing. When you're in a war your supplies are very limited. Herbivores have the advantage of being able to graze while they move and thereby sustain themselves without needing a lot of feed supplies. Imagine having to keep feeding a huge group of hypercarnivores. You'd have to raise and bring along and control and protect a herd of extra animals purely for food.

Massive carnivores are ace on the cool factor but very impractical as war beasts.

Male lions don't look like felines to me at all. Is it just my imagination or are their faces/heads significantly longer than tigers and female lions?
