Why do people not like the adorable chicken winglets?
>>2321499
>disease delivery on wings
rabies
Bats are good shit
>>2321499
Some bats really are cute and look like flying foxes/dogs, too bad about all the diseases and shit. Also hoping the local variant is one that eats mosquitoes and not fruits.
Wonder how trainable/tameable they are, though.
>>2321615
This might be kinda stupid to say but I wonder why they havnt gone the way of domesticated rats.
Maybe they are just too difficult to train or properly feed
>>2321615
I tend to like the ones with the less canine face
>>2321619
Extremely high metabolic rate compared to rats.
>>2321619
Most bats are nocturnal and/or migrate.
What would they use them for anyway?
>>2321499
Centuries of superstition
Not being familiar with them
They look weird to most people
They're out at night
People fear what they don't know and understand.

This. I met a couple of bat biologists once during a layover at an airport. Talked with them a while. Apparently they have to be really careful when handling bats because the bats are so delicate and stress so easily. Their fur is supposed to be super soft though, and they're really warm because of the high metabolism.
>>2321619
>need incredibly large enclosures
>need very specific food
They're not to hard to train, but you need an aviary to keep them. They can't live in cages at all and they need friends. They're legal in Oregon, but man are they expensive are more work than is feasible for the random chuckle fuck.
>bats are number one rabies carrier and a multitude of other diseases and shit
>you can't even feel if they bite you
>they bite you for no reason sometimes
Fuck these things, they're like when someone says
>what if spiders had WINGS
Thankfully i don't go outside at night much

These are good answers thanks
Domestication is weird and I like hearing why things end up working over time and why they dont.
Plus my bat facts are heavily lacking
Because rabies and ebola.
I still think they're adorable, though.
i have these fucks in my attic every spring and cant figure out how to stop them. call local wildlife recovery place to ask. they go on about how amazing and lucky i am.
>>2323950
You are. Bats are fucking cute and neato.
>>2323950
Likely, they eat mosquitoes, hence the luck.
>>2323950
Put fine mesh or screen over any attic vents now, before they come back for the year.
You can also put up a bat house to give them an alternative roost.

Just remember anon, rabies is only like 99.9999999999999999% fatal.
Watch this: https://youtu.be/-moG6JDmJdc
Also, there is only one case of rabies being cured.
