my guess is that most are put off by the pink, naked pigs and have exactly that in mind when they hear about pigs.
I think if more people know about the fluffy ones like in the OP more people will be interested in them.
also, many still think they're dumb while they often seem to be smarter than dogs.

Its probably for the best. Pigs are smart as shit and it'd likely end up in a bunch of spoiled abused pigs flooding shelters.
Pigs and rats are the ecofrendliest. People have just a perfect attitude towards them without any "aww nooooo they shoot fluffy cats and eat dooooogss :((("
