I've heard of cases of ostriches contracting spongiform encephalopathy.
It's just one of those more research required sort of things.
Prion diseases spread between species based on the similarity of the base pairs in their DNA. They're too far from the mammals genetically.

Mammals get it from cannibalizing conspecifics, which is much more common among the animals mentioned, so I was wondering why there doesn't seem to be an especially high incidence among those groups.
