as a kid did anyone else catch lizards and hang them on their ears?

as a kid I used to catch horse flies, attach a thread to each one, tie them onto something on me maybe including ears and run around. Country side balloons.

I did. caught tons of them. Along with frogs and toads.

It's just... if you are swimming in a lake sometimes they'll come to harass you while you are half-way in or out of water, so they were easy to catch. Or was it botflies. Something annoying, fat and bitey. It's been at least 10 years.
